Job Summary:
The Department of Radiology, with University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health, is seeking a full-time Nuclear Medicine faculty member. This faculty member will pursue an academic career in Molecular Imaging and Radiotheranostics at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or full Professor on the CT or CHS Track, with opportunities for leadership roles in our Radiology Department within the Nuclear Medicine Section and University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center. Additional opportunities also may arise for clinical work in subspecialty radiology sections (Cardiovascular, Chest, Abdominal and etc.) and are available for candidates eligible for American Board of Radiology (ABR) certification in DR.
The University of Wisconsin Section of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging provides image interpretation of a wide range of nuclear medicine procedures including positron emission tomography (PET) examinations. The section is composed of experts in multiple areas including general nuclear medicine and PET imaging, nuclear cardiology, PET/ MR, prostate cancer imaging and therapy, and the imaging and treatment of patients with thyroid cancer. Therapies in patients with various forms of cancer are routinely performed with unsealed sources, such as radioactive iodine in patient with thyroid disease and 177-Lu-DOTATATE for patients with neuroendocrine tumors. The section is part of an expanding theranostics program using both clinically approved and investigational agents. This is a growing area with plans for a future theranostics center. The section has state-of-the-art imaging equipment including PET/CT, PET/MR, and SPECT/CT.
The UW Department of Radiology consists of more than 120 faculty across 10 specialty sections, reading over 600,000 diagnostic scans per year. We train more than 50 residents and fellows per year and have extensive presence throughout the medical student curriculum. The Department of Radiology benefits from strong collaborations with the Department of Medical Physics, and together, the two share over 70,000 ft of facilities within the Wisconsin Institutes of Medical Research, including over $30 million of state-of-the-art equipment in PET, CT, MR, angiography, ultrasound, and PACS. With nearly $16 million in NIH funding, the UW Department of Radiology was ranked #11 by the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research in 2021, and a recent Elsevier report ranked the Department of Radiology at the University of Wisconsin as third in the world for its impact on the field of medical imaging. The Department is also home to several services dedicated to supporting our researchers, including the cutting-edge Radiopharmaceutical Production Facility and the Medical Imaging Research Services core, which provides extensive regulatory, grant administration, technical consultation, and image analysis services.
CHS Track: For appointments hired under the Clinical Health Sciences (CHS) Track. The successful applicant will participate in administrative, and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.
CT Track: For appointments hired on the Clinician Teacher (CT) Track. The successful applicant will provide patient care at UW Health approved locations; participate in resident and medical teaching within the scope of their medical practice.
Responsibilities:
Clinical duties will be assigned in the Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging section and will include performing and interpreting the clinical nuclear medicine, PET, and nuclear cardiology studies, as well as evaluating and treating radiotheranostics patients with a high level of excellence.
This position will play a central part in the teaching program engaging with radiology residents and nuclear medicine residents in lectures, regular imaging and radiotheranostics clinical conferences, journal clubs, protocol reviews, as well as side-by-side instruction in the clinic. This position will also participate in medical student teaching. Opportunities exist for participation and development of our nuclear medicine residency program and emerging theranostics training.
Our section and department offer an abundance of opportunities for multi-disciplinary clinical and translational molecular imaging and radiotheranostics research, ranging from artificial intelligence, radiotheranostics and dosimetry and novel translational radiopharmaceuticals.
The successful applicant will participate in administrative, and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. University and community service are also expected as appropriate. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.
