Position Overview
Primary Purpose of Position |
This position will serve as a director of one of the newly approved graduate programs within the Department of Criminal Justice (
CRJS) at the rank of associate professor or professor. The position will report to the chairperson of the Criminal Justice Department and work closely with the Department, Dean's Office and faculty to develop and implement a high quality, R1 graduate degree program that will provide strong, foundational support as well as innovative learning approaches to students in the areas of criminal justice and forensics. The position recruitment has a target fill date of August 2024.
The position will also have responsibility for teaching an approved curriculum of introductory and advanced-level courses in accordance with the assigned schedule to ensure student satisfaction. The position will assist students in achieving completion of course objectives and student learning outcomes; provide regular and timely feedback to students; participate in college retention initiatives by maintaining productive contact with and offering assistance to students; advising/mentoring students in matters related to academics, attendance, etc.; motivating students to actively participate in all aspects of the educational process; maintaining and reporting student grades and attendance, success reporting items, and timely submission of midterm and final grades in accordance with university policies; and other teaching and course review duties as assigned.
This position also will carry out discipline-related tasks as directed by the Chair or the Dean, including research and scholarly activity, recruitment, curriculum development and other activities such as service to the Department, College and University as needed/required. |
Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
In conjunction with the department chair, the administrative responsibilities of the Criminal Justice (
CRJS) Graduate Program Director include developing the graduate academic curriculum and managing instructional programs, budgetary management, faculty development, instruction, coordination of graduate research opportunities and career preparation; departmental assessment and accreditation functions and interfacing with the accrediting body. Employee will have a terminal degree in the discipline and have knowledge and experience with accrediting standards and procedures; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; a dedication and passion for teaching; and ability to work collaboratively and collegially with colleagues. The employee will have an established portfolio of scholarly/research activity in the discipline. In addition to these administrative responsibilities, the
CRJS Graduate Program Director will teach two classes (six credit hours) per semester, and participate in student recruiting and advising efforts. Service to the program, department, college and university are also expected. The position is scheduled for recruitment during Spring 2024 and expected to be filled by August 1, 2024.
Responsibilities at Faculty Rank:
Teach a variety of academic courses in the Criminal Justice Department; mentor and advise students; maintain a visible and active professional profile; cultivate relationships with professional organizations; and engage in appropriate service to the College, University, and profession.
The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (
CAHSS) houses the Departments of Criminal Justice, English, History and Political Science, Journalism and Mass Communication, Liberal Studies, and Visual and Performing Arts.

Minimum Requirements |
Ph.D. or other terminal degree in the discipline. |

At least four years of teaching experience, and scholarly activity and service, preferably in a higher education setting. Ph.D. in Criminal Justice or related discipline is preferred. |
