JOB MISSION:

As a Sr. Innovation Engineer, you will be part of a team introducing new automation and robotics technologies to New Balance manufacturing facilities with the goal of strengthening manufacturing as a competitive advantage. You will be an integral part of New Balance's mission to use technology to solve problems, create new capabilities, improve processes, reduce costs, improve safety and enhance manufacturing. In this role, you will research and implement new ideas to aid in building a vision of the future. You will analyze new advanced manufacturing trends and techniques, automation, robotics, and assembly tools seeking opportunities to transfer technologies from R&D to the manufacturing facilities. You will work closely with the Manufacturing, Product Engineering, Development and Health & Safety departments to keep assigned projects on schedule. You will ensure that new processes are smoothly introduced from pilot programs through commercialization and that issues are quickly identified and resolved.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Evaluate technologies from leading edge existing and new vendors within and outside of the shoe industry to assure we learn about the latest technology and understand new opportunities.
  • Manages assigned projects. Prepares plans for the project including vision statements, timelines, and milestones.
  • Works closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Development and Health and Safety departments to assure that issues are quickly identified and resolved.
  • Creates DOEs for successful testing and onboarding of new equipment
  • Troubleshoots and works with technicians and engineers to problem solve
  • Successfully documents new processes and ensures successful transitions to other teams

REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESS:

  • Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing, Chemical, Plastics, or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with 5+ years of relevant work experience, Masters preferred
  • A self-starter who has demonstrated problem solving, ideation, creativity, and investigative skills
  • Enjoys working in a hands-on, maker space environment with prototype and machine shop equipment
  • Knowledgeable about the entire product development lifecycle from prototype to launch
  • Experience designing test rigs and integrating sensors for data collection
  • Familiarity with DOE, life testing, lean principles, Six Sigma, and IQ/OQ/PQ
  • Collaboration, teamwork, and the ability to mentor junior engineers is essential
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Skilled at Solidworks and Flow simulation,
  • 6-axis robotics experience with Fanuc, ABB, UR, Epson, or Kawasaki
  • Understanding of software and electronics for electromechanical systems is a plus
  • Familiarity with vision and scanning systems is a plus

Flexible Work Schedule

New Balance Associates currently work in office three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday).
