The Carnegie Mellon Biomedical Engineering department seeks to transform healthcare worldwide through interdisciplinary engineering innovation and to train future leaders and innovators in biomedical engineering.

Carnegie Mellon University is searching for aSurgical Research Fellow to join the biomedical engineering department. This is an exciting opportunityfor someone whothrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You willcontributeto the department by assisting in the planning and execution of novel long and short-term in vivo surgical experiments on both large and small laboratory animals, and other such tasks as assigned to you.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Utilizing a range of animal models to investigate application of new artificial lungs, surface coatings, and anticoagulants during extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).

  • Providing medical expertise in writing animal care and use protocols and developing surgical plans.

  • Collecting and analyzing data.

  • performing surgeries, including anesthesia and peri- and post-operative animal care.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree required and at least three years of general surgery residency.
