Access Control Technician - Facilities Management & Campus Services (FMCS)

We are looking for an Access Control Technician to join our team, who will be responsible for the installation and maintenance of critical systems including but not limited to; Access Control, Access Control systems & software, and Electronic Door Entry. This person will install, troubleshoot, and repair the systems listed. The Access Control Technician will be the day-to-day primary contact for access control support for Facilities Management Services. This person will attend interdepartmental and project job meetings and maintain a high level of communication between the various work groups as well as the campus community at large. They will also be responsible for the daily monitoring and operation of the Access Control software application (CSGold) for the purposes of electronic door entry and building/door schedules. Position provides critical end user support for all groups throughout the university who utilize the system to control access privileges for their departments and individual spaces. Acts as the day-to-day primary contact for system configuration requests from the campus community. Will need to promptly respond to daily service requests and urgent client requests while interacting and communicating with customers in a professional manner.

Responsibilities include:

  • Install and maintain access control systems including card readers, door strikes, Wi-Fi and Wireless locksets. Interface access control systems with door entry and automated door opening systems. Troubleshoot access control hardware failures and complete repairs. Support day to day activities of the Life Safety shop.
  • Perform regularly scheduled maintenance on access control systems.
  • Access Control and related software management
  • Receive and assign work orders to resolve any customer issues while facilitating positive customer interactions
  • Assists in configuring new access control device permissions
  • Collaborates with Campus Design and Facilities Development (CDFD) to help develop work plans and assist in software configuration during design and development status of new projects.
  • Act as a liaison between Access Control and the CMU Police, Housing Services, and the wider campus community to adjust any door schedules/permissions as needed
  • Become a Subject Matter Expert in access control application (CSGold) and collaborate with Computing Services for any technical support
  • Attend training as required to meet position requirements, professional development, and departmental goals.
  • Perform office administration duties, i.e. ordering supplies, organizational skills, manage emails for WO requests and respond accordingly
  • Work Order entry, management, and adjustment (Maximo)
  • Other duties as assigned

The candidate should be someone who can decipher complex engineering drawings and specifications. The ability to analyze complicated technical problems, evaluate various solutions and implement resolutions in a zero-tolerance environment is essential. Must be able to accurately install and integrate various access control and door entry systems to meet operational goals. Ability to effectively use industry specific electronic testing, hand, and power tools. Need to be able to work under pressure and meet hard deadlines. Knowledge of door hardware specifications and life safety codes is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree from a technical school or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Three years of experience in the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of access control.
  • Excellent command of MS-Excel, MS-Office, and Google Suite applications
  • Able to lift 40 pounds from ground to overhead. Ability to work on ladders and lifts.
  • Able to work in confined spaces. Able to travel on foot throughout 100+ acre campus.
  • Exceptional accuracy, organization and communication skills are required. Must be able to manage multiple projects and assignments simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in access control system design and installation.
  • CBORD factory training.
  • Five years of experience in the installation and maintenance of access control systems and/or applications administration preferred
  • Experience working in an institutional or educational environment.
  • Experience working with automated entry systems. Experience working with security systems.

Requirements:

  • Successful Background check
  • PA Child Protection Clearances (ACT 153)
  • Valid PA driver's license (or equivalent for out-of-sate applicants)
  • Motor Vehicle Records (conducted annually)
  • Fitness for duty assessment and pre-employment medical exam
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol screen
