Reporting to the Director of Accounting Services, the Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing the daily operation of the accounting team. The newly created role of Accounting Manager leads with financial stewardship of the business' accounting function and directs staff to execute accounting tasks in support of corporate objectives. The Accounting Manager serves as a day-to-day business partner with operations and supporting functions to manage the financial wellness of the business and ongoing projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  • Oversee daily operation on the accounting department
  • Supervision of the accounting team to include direct management responsibility of staff duties, regular guidance on departmental objectives, and conducting all performance management tasks for staff
  • Effectively manage department functions to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting; includes accounts payable, account receivable, payroll, travel system administration and auditing
  • Develop and maintain accounting procedures and policies to comply with internal controls, government regulations, and company standards
  • Manage monthly and year-end close process and preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and other analysis
  • Review reconciliations of general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Assist with external audit to provide requested data and ensure compliance with requirements for annual financial audit, single audit, and 401(k) audit
  • Establish and enforce internal controls to safeguard financial assets and prevent fraud or errors, to include ensuring compliance with standards and coordinating external audits
  • Assist in the development and monitoring of budgets and forecasts
  • Stay up-to-date with accounting regulations and best practices to ensure compliance and efficiency
  • Assist with annual tax preparation
  • Assist with ERP implementation

Minimum Requirements

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:



  • Strong working knowledge of accounting principles related to GL, U.S. GAAP, financial statement preparation, and financial closeout monthly and year-end
  • Proficient with ERP software platforms to manage business
  • Adept with developing dashboards, KPIs and analytics in support of business operational excellence
  • Strong computer skills - MS Office, Salesforce, as well as data visualization and reporting platforms such as Power BI Application
  • Proficient with complex Excel spreadsheets with formulas
  • Working knowledge of payroll processing, to include best practices, payroll laws, and payroll processing platforms
  • Proficient with establishing and maintaining internal control processes
  • Adept at people management and the desire to develop staff to support personal and professional development goals
  • Positive attitude and eagerness to take on management challenges and quick to learn new skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills to handle multiple tasks within a high-volume, dynamic work environment
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and employees
  • High degree of detail-orientation with work
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills



EDUCATION:



  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or similar field



EXPERIENCE:



  • Eight (8) or more years of accounting experience
  • At least two (2) years of direct supervisory responsibility of accounting staff
  • Experience with government contracts in a research and development (R&D) environment is preferred
