Gundersen Health System is hiring Pharmacy Technicians who are interested in a career delivering LOVE + MEDICINE.

Multiple Locations:

We have full-time and on-call career positions available in our Hospital, Retail, and Clinic Pharmacy locations in La Crosse and Onalaska.

Flexible Schedules:

Shift times may vary but can include days, evenings, and rotating weekends depending on candidate interest.

Pay and Benefits:

GHS Pharmacy Technicians start at a minimum of $18.31/hour with additional shift differential pay and increases based on prior experience. GHS also offers world-class benefits including tuition assistance for further education, employer paid retirement contributions AND match, and over 4 weeks of PTO per year.

Job Description:

Under the supervision of a pharmacists, a pharmacy technician organizes medications for dispensing to patients by reading medication orders and/or prescriptions, preparing labels and/or bags, calculating quantities, and compounding sterile and/or non-sterile products. A pharmacy technician participates in medication dispensing and/or delivery while maintaining pharmacy's medication management and infection control procedures, policies and regulations. A pharmacy technician will be assigned to a specific area of practice and responsibilities will be applicable to that area.

Major Responsibilities:

1. Ability to demonstrate competency of the defined responsibilities of the Pharmacy Technician Trainee.

2. Provides customer service to both patients and Gundersen Health System staff, including triaging of phone calls and non-clinical medication related questions.

3. Obtains accurate information from patients including personal and insurance information, and efficiently enters information into the computer system.

4. Participates in the Transition of Care programs implemented in the Pharmacy.

5. Follows expectations of the Pharmacy Technician Tech-Check-Tech program.

6. Handles of controlled substances following all policies, SOPs and regulatory statutes.

7. Ownership of inventory control for all inventory locations.

8. Ability to troubleshoot technology related processes and equipment.

9. Prepares and mixes non-sterile preparations for distribution to patients.

10. Aseptically prepares and mixes sterile preparations for distribution to patients.

11. Aseptically prepares and mixes hazardous medications for distribution to patients.

12. Assists with the training of Pharmacy Technician Trainees, and Pharmacy Technicians.

13. Assists with maintaining cleanliness in the department to guaranteeing sterility with appropriate measures.

14. Adheres to regular and predictable attendance.
15. Personally interacts, engages with and cares for patients.
16. Ensures patient safety.

17. Performs other job-related responsibilities as requested by pharmacists, support staff, and leadership.

Education and Learning:
REQUIRED
High School Diploma or equivalency and completion of an Accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program or equivalent pharmacy technician experience

Work Experience:
REQUIRED
3 months pharmacy experience

DESIRED

1 year pharmacy experience

License and Certifications:
REQUIRED

  • If working in Wisconsin, must be registered with the Wisconsin Dept. of Safety & Professional Services (WIRPhT) and be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)

  • If working in Minnesota, must be registered with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy (MNRPhT)and be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)

  • If working in Iowa, must be registered with the IOWA Board of Pharmacy (IARPhT) and be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) within 12 months of hire through the Pharmacy Technician Board or National Healthcareer Association
