Schedule Weekly Hours:

36 Gundersen Health System is seeking a full-time Polysomnographic Tech for our Sleep Lab to join our dedicated and passionate team in scenic La Crosse, WI.
What you will do:
  • 0.9 FTE = 72 hours/every two weeks
  • 12-hour night shifts (630p-630a)
  • Typical nights are Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays
  • No weekends, no on-call
What you need:
  • Graduate of an Electroneurodiagnostic or Polysomnographic or Respiratory Therapy program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs
  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) within 30 months of hire date

Job Description:

The Polysomnographic Technologist performs comprehensive polysomnographic testing and analysis, and overnight polysomnograms on patients as ordered by a physician.

Major Responsibilities:
1. Works with inpatients and outpatients/family members of Gundersen Health System to perform Polysomnogram (PSG), with or without Positive Airway Pressure (PAP), Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), ensuring accurate, and efficient, polysomnographic evaluation.
2. Operates Medical equipment to record wake/sleep physiology.

3. Provides patient education and overall support/comfort during testing procedures.
4. . Works with multidisciplinary health care team to facilitate services, give consultation/education, and generate/print accurate reports for the physician.
5. Responsible for knowledge and independent application of skills related to pattern recognition, sleep/wake stages, respiratory and Electrocardiogram (ECG) events, various medical and pharmacological changes, and electrical safety.

6. Demonstrates critical thinking and ability to work with minimal supervision to analyze complex situations and apply policy.

7. Responsible for performing routine equipment care and maintenance, including cleaning and calibration of equipment.

8. Responsible for following infection control policies.

9. Monitors patient safety and adheres to patient safety protocols.

10. Responsible for maintaining accurate department documentation and patient schedules.
11. Responsible for achieving and maintaining competency of the department's American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) accreditation standard of continuing education and any mandated organizational employee education.
12. Other duties, as assigned.

Education and Learning:
REQUIRED
Graduate of an Electroneurodiagnostic or Polysomnographic or Respiratory Therapy program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)
OR

One year on-the-job training from a sleep lab accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM).

Work Experience:
REQUIRED
No experience required.

DESIRED
6 months experience as Neurodiagnostic Technician or Polysomnographic Technician or Respiratory Therapist.

License and Certifications:
REQUIRED
Certification through one of the following:

Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) OR

Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) OR

Sleep Disorders Specialist (SDS)

Current Infant-Adult Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (with hands on learning) from one of the following programs; American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Adult (18 - 64 years)
Geriatric (65 years & older)

OSHA Category:
Category I - All Employees in this job title have a reasonably anticipated risk of occupational exposure to blood and/or other potentially infectious materials.

Environmental Conditions:
Exposed to infectious diseases.
Frequently in close quarters.
