Job Description

JOB PURPOSE

As a senior R&D expert, you are responsible for executing and managing strategic Core R&D, projects from concept through to industrial stage. As part of the 3D fiber platform team, you leverage your conversion expertise to help drive the Amcor sustainability agenda with a strong focus on 3D fiber-based end applications. The role requires close links within the Global Core R&D organization, Regional Segment R&D teams, Procurement and Plant Technical Teams to deliver profitable growth through new product developments. As a senior research engineer within the team you will help drive the broader team agenda and are able to leverage internal and external networks.

JOB DIMENSIONS AND SCOPE

As an experienced R&D engineer, you will lead Core R&D projects with a strong focus on new building block generation fitting within the broader plastic to paper trend in the market without compromising on technical excellence. You will represent the Core R&D fiber team in project meetings with Regional Segment R&D, commercial functions, Procurement, Plants, etc. on a Global scale. Organizing and coordinating project team work, setting priorities in alignment with the needs of the business and ensuring project delivery on time and within budget. You will Work closely with your direct colleagues in the broader fiber team as well as other key internal customers, globally, like Segment Product Development and production plants. As a senior expert, you will be the key contact for these teams on technical questions, relating to 3D fiber-based packaging conversion and raw materials, specifically towards building block design, selection and processing; leveraging your fiber expertise you will be developing the next generation of sustainable fiber-based packaging.

WHAT YOU GET TO DO

  • Responsible for running, following-up and closing Core R&D fiber-based building block developments on time. Responsible for technical customer satisfaction (internal & external), support trials and product platform launches. Development of differentiated fiber based solutions with suppliers. Consider more sustainable solutions vs. existing formulations.
  • You are aware of the key trends in the market and keep a tight ship around FTO and IP generation.
  • You are comfortable representing Amcor in external (research) consortia
  • Represents the Core R&D fiber team in project meetings.
  • Identify clear targets and costs. Meet project plans, create regular project up-dates and monthly reports.
  • Responsible for managing the DMF press at the NIC, including responsibility on safety of the asset and organization of tool design.
  • Have a strong affinity for Technology scouting in the field of 3D fiber forming and are able to communicate these clearly and consistently.
  • Participate in Global innostreams in his/her field of expertise.
  • Consulting other functions in his/her field of expertise.
  • Bridge the knowledge gap between fiber formulation, polymer/fiber interaction and forming technology scouting
  • Show an entrepreneurial approach towards product and business development

WHAT WE WANT FROM YOU

  • University degree or comparable education in material science engineering/Packaging development with a focus on fiber based building blocks.
  • knowing the ins and outs of the flexible packaging industry (focus on paper applications).
  • Strong knowledge and experience in raw material onboarding and processing.
  • Project management experience.
  • Commercial acumen in a technical environment.
  • Service mentality and able to respond to customers 'on demand'
  • Communication; working in cross functional teams
  • Standard knowledge of usual IT tools (Microsoft Office, ...)
  • Fluent in English
