Work Schedule and Hours
Primarily 8-5pm; rotation in on-call and crisis intervention, which may require after-hour emergency response; some after-hours programming and activities as needed. Occasional travel to regional and out-of-the-area meetings (as needed for training and/or collaboration with other substance abuse professionals)

Position Summary
This position is funded through student health fees to lead and consult with the UNC Asheville community regarding mental health and substance abuse services, issues, and programs. This position provides individual and group counseling, educational groups, mental health evaluations, and referrals to the local community for all appropriate students. This position is split between the delivery of individual and group counseling (75%) and coordination of substance abuse education. (25%)

This position also has responsibility to develop and implement outreach services, prevention programs, and program evaluation/assessment activities related to mental health and substance abuse.

Required Education/Experience/Skills

  • Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Professional Counseling
  • North Carolina Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist or equivalent
  • North Carolina license in Psychology, Social Work, or Professional Counseling
  • Experience/training in Substance Abuse Counseling and education programming with a college population.
  • Three to five years experience in a substance abuse counseling.

Preferred Education/Experience/Skills
Three to five years of experiences as a licensed therapist.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrate knowledge, experience and skill in providing individual and group counseling and emergency assessments for a variety of diagnosis and conditions.

Demonstrate knowledge of individual substance abuse evaluation and treatment.

Demonstrate ability to implement mental health and substance abuse educational programs to various campus groups.

Demonstrate ability to identify and respond to campus and community needs within the context of the limited resources and funding provided.
