The Rutgers Center for Ocean Observing Leadership (
RUCOOL), within the Department of Marine & Coastal Sciences (
DMCS) is seeking a calendar year non-tenure track (
NTT) faculty titled, Research Associate, to work with the Rutgers Center for Ocean Observing Leadership and broader faculty.
The Research Associate will carry out research on physical coastal ocean processes, air-sea interactions, and offshore wind. The successful candidate will have experience with ocean observations, 3D numerical ocean and atmospheric models, and idealized ocean and atmospheric models. Furthermore, they will have an understanding of ocean mixing processes and ocean and atmospheric boundary layer physics. They will carry out research to better understand the interaction of offshore wind development and the ocean and atmospheric environment including developing studies, reports, high quality publications, and carrying out presentations at local, regional, and national forums. The research associate will join a dynamic and collaborative team of research staff, faculty, and students within

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
Must have a PhD in Physical Oceanography or a related field. |
Certifications/Licenses |

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
Requires a PhD degree in meteorology, oceanography, or a related field that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of research principles and practices around coastal physical oceanography, ocean mixing processes, air-sea interactions, and/or boundary layer physics. Experience carrying out oceanographic and/or atmospheric research using combinations of in-situ observations and numerical ocean and atmospheric modeling such as the Weather Research and Forecasting (
WRF) model, the Regional Ocean Modeling System (
ROMS) or the Coupled Ocean Atmosphere Waves and Sediment Transport (
COAWST) model within a high-performance computing environment. Experience with programming languages such as
NCL, Matlab, and/or Python or equivalents is required.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
A record of publication in high quality peer-reviewed journals, experience working with large multi-disciplinary research teams. |
Equipment Utilized |
Experience with Python and/or other data processing languages is required.
Experience with the Linux operating system and with high performance computing (
HPC)
Experience with the Weather Research and Forecasting (
WRF)
Experience with the Regional Ocean Modeling System (
ROMS)
Experience with met-ocean observing platforms, including radar, lidar, other in situ and remote sensing technologies is preferred. |
