A postdoctoral position in social-emotional learning and character development (SECD) is available in Dr. Maurice J. Elias's SECD Laby in the Clinical Psychology Section of the Psychology Department at Rutgers University.

The SECD Lab ([http://www.secdlab.org)/]www.secdlab.org)focuses on the development and evaluation of SECD interventions at the school and district levels, with a particular focus on urban, at-risk, trauma-affected settings. Four particular foci are (1) the evaluation of professional certificate programs in SECD Instruction and School Leadership for SECD, operated by the Academy for SEL in Schools at Rutgers and the College of Saint Elizabeth, (2) the development and evaluation of Students Taking Action Together, an integration of SEL instructional strategies into middle-school social studies classes to promote civil discourse, (3) the development of a sense of positive purpose and understanding its connection to SEL, other virtues, and indicators of academic success and mental health, and (4) the evolution of a new national SEL organization, SEL4US, designed as a network of state-affiliated SEL alliances.

Minimum Education and Experience

Competitive applicants will have a doctoral degree in school, clinical, or community psychology or education or related fields. Experience with advanced data analysis techniques and professional and public writing are preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The position will require interacting with Lab teams and SEL and education professionals nationally. Excellent research coordination and communication skills are required.

The SECD Lab is located on the Livingston Campus of Rutgers University in suburban Piscataway, NJ, on the Northeast Corridor, with commuting access to New York City, Princeton, and Philadelphia.
