The Community and Transactional Lawyering Clinic ( CTLC) is the transactional law clinical education program of Rutgers Law School in Newark, NJ. Each semester, law school students represent clients on a broad range of transactional matters under the guidance of Clinical Instructors. The CTLC's legal practice includes general business, corporate, non-profit, community economic development, estate, guardianships and other transactional legal areas.
The CTLC is pleased to announce a new post-graduate fellowship, centering on community-focused transactional law. At the CTLC, the fellow will work closely with the CTLC Clinical Instructors who have extensive transactional law experience with small businesses and non-profits. The fellow will take part in educational endeavors and will represent for-profit and non-profit business entities and individuals in need of guardianship and estate support. The fellow will also supervise law students enrolled in the CTLC. Additionally, the fellow will be trained in substantive transactional law, lawyering skills and community-building with organizations who provide services to historically underserved business owners and non-profits.
The two-year fellowship will commence on July 1, 2024 and end June 30, 2026 and is available to law school graduates. Bilingual attorneys and first-generation attorneys will be given priority in the application process.

Key Duties
* Legal representation of clinic's clients. (30%)
* Teach, mentor, supervise, evaluate, and structure the practice work of law school students and represent clients of the CTLC. (30%)
* Participate in the classroom component of the TLC and be involved in assisting with curriculum development. (10%)
* Assist in the marketing and community outreach efforts of the CTLC by supporting the clinic's endeavors to develop and nurture relationships with various client communities, organizations and client populations. (20%)
* Assist, as needed, in the administrative functions of the clinic. (10%)
* Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
* Graduation from an accredited law school
* Admission to a state bar
* A demonstrated ability to manage clients and independently oversee a substantial case load.
* Strong oral and written communication, organizational skills, time management, case management and documentation skills.
* A strong motivation to learn and achieve superior professional practice and mentoring skills
* A demonstrated commitment to work to promote public interest and the clinical program at the law school.
* A demonstrated interest in transactional law is preferred.
* Experience working as a small business owner, non-profit founder or experience working with small businesses or non-profits is a plus.
