The
Department of Pharmacology at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (
RWJMS) seeks applications for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position in medical education. The successful candidate will be capable of developing and delivering content for the pre-clerkship medical student curriculum with additional responsibility for oversight of interdisciplinary pre-clerkship courses. Experience teaching pharmacology, physiology, and/or immunology is required. Educators with experience in programmatic assessment as well as instructional modalities that incorporate interactive learning, team-based, problem-based, or case-based learning preferred. Ability to work with clinician educators and educators trained as basic scientists to develop interdisciplinary curriculum content is essential.
Educators hired on the teaching-track are expected to earn outstanding teaching evaluations, engage with education leaders at other medical schools, and develop disseminated scholarship related to education to secure future promotion. Candidates must have a doctoral degree (MD or PhD). This appointment will be made at an academic rank commensurate with experience. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide oversight of course content; recruit faculty to teach individual lectures, facilitate small group exercises, and supervise laboratory-based activities; prepare formative and summative assessments; advise and counsel students; coordinate course content and scheduling with other curriculum leaders; work with leadership and administrative staff in the Office of Education and the Cognitive Skills Program; teach a portion of the course content; ensure that curricular objectives are met and maintain course materials on the learning management platform.
- In coordination with other pre-clerkship course directors, participate in the direction of existing and new courses in the medical curriculum as they evolve.
- Work with clinician educators and educators trained as basic scientists to develop interdisciplinary curriculum content.
- Conduct scholarly work in the field of education, with the goal of disseminating teaching methods and materials, develop educational materials that bring recognition to the individual, department, and institution, and participate in national organizations devoted to medical education.
- Support the educational goals and activities of Rutgers University through teaching and service.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
Qualified candidates must have experience teaching pharmacology or physiology or immunology within a medical or health-professional school, and have evidence of excellence and productivity as a course director. Knowledge in one of these three areas and a willingness to learn and teach in others is required. Candidates must have a Doctoral degree (PhD, MD, MD/PhD or equivalent graduate degree).
