The Modeling Equitable and Accessible Spaces for Everyone (M- EASE) project in the Department of Psychology and Center for Cognitive Science is seeking a post-doctoral associate for an NSF-funded project on the social, environmental and linguistic factors that affect human wayfinding. Working with the PI and co-PIs in computer science, psychology, applied math and architecture/design, the postdoctoral fellow will be intimately involved in all aspects of the research, including the conceptualization, design, performance, analysis, and modeling of the results of VR experiments, and the preparation of manuscripts for publication. A doctoral degree in cognitive psychology, cognitive science, computer science/engineering, language sciences or a related field is required, as well as strong quantitative and programming skills. Experience with virtual reality development, machine learning, or advanced data analyses and modeling are highly desirable.

Minimum Education and Experience
A doctoral degree in cognitive psychology, cognitive science, computer science/engineering, language sciences or a related field is required. The applicant should have strong programming skills and experience analyzing/modeling the results of human subject experiments.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The applicant must have strong programming skills in Python, and experience in at least one of the following areas: virtual reality development, machine learning, analyzing and modeling complex data, motion capture, character animation and eye-tracking. The candidate should have strong spoken and written communication skills, excellent inter-personal skills, and the ability to interface with students and faculty in psychology, cognitive science, computer science, applied mathematics and architecture/design.

Vive Focus 3 VR headset and eyetracker, Vicon motion capture system, Rokoko motion capture system, Pupil Core eye tracker. Software: Python, C#, C++, R, Unity, OpenXR, MakeHuman, MotionBuilder, Maya.

The research will primarily be conducted in the Busch Psychology Building, which is located on the Busch Campus of Rutgers University in suburban Piscataway, NJ, on the Northeast Corridor, with commuting access to New York City, Princeton, and Philadelphia. Some research may be conducted at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, which is located in Newark NJ.
