Rutgers University-New Brunswick seeks an instructor to teach one class, 01:082:101 BUILDING THE FUTURE: AN INTRODUCTION TO ARCHITECTURE

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Introduction to architecture emphasizing building for the future. Overview of the social and intellectual history of cities and architecture using global examples. The successful candidate will devise the syllabus, post the readings and other relevant material on the Learning Management system, grade all tests and papers, and submit grades in a timely fashion. This is a 100-level class, required class in the Architectural Studies minor. Certain general education requirements must be met by students who pass this class. These include the following two learning goals. 1) Students completing this course will be able to analyze a contemporary global issue from a multidisciplinary perspective and 2) Students completing this course will be able to analyze [architecture in itself] and with respect to specific histories, values, languages, cultures, and technologies. The instructor may be as innovative as he/she/they wish within these general guidelines.

The successful candidate will be the sole Instructor of Record for this 3-credit class.

The class must be taught in person on Wednesdays from 10:20am to 1:20pm. The first class will be January 17, 2024 and the final grades will be due the second week of May.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
PhD in Art History, Architecture, or a related field; PhD students in the post-qualifying exam stage are encouraged to apply; students with an MA may be considered in exceptional circumstances.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Teaching experience preferred.
Equipment Utilized
Familiarity with Canvas, Rutgers' Learning Management Software, helpful but not required.
