Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow within the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research.

Under the direction of the Director, Associate Director, Principal Investigators, and/or senior Research Project Managers, the Post-Doctoral Fellow will implement complex statistical analyses of health care claims data including millions of Medicare and Medicaid claims and other research data; interface with scientific collaborators and their teams at other institutions, and draft reports of analytic results. The Fellow will participate in the writing of research papers and contribute to the development of study progress/final reports as appropriate. Mentoring will be provided in the further development of advanced expertise in healthcare data analysis, longitudinal modeling, advanced statistical programming techniques, and high-level analysis of healthcare claims data. Opportunities will be provided to complement the job training experience with selected coursework in statistical analysis, research methods, and related topics, as mutually agreed upon between the candidate and the center director.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Works with investigators and senior Center staff to implement sophisticated, longitudinal statistical programming and data analysis for health services research and outcomes studies evaluating the use and effects of pharmacological and other healthcare treatments, utilizing national and data healthcare databases including national Medicaid/Medicare, nursing home, private insurance, and other datasets reflecting healthcare encounters on very large patient populations (tens of millions of individuals followed over multiple years).
  • Applies advanced techniques in SAS software for longitudinal data analysis, data linkage across large datasets, construction of medication use calendars, and statistical modeling of outcomes.
  • Contributes to or leads manuscripts for publication in scientific journals including methodology, development of tables & figures, and text summarization of results.
  • Provides data-analytic support to a large and complex program of research.
  • Constructs statistically advanced programs in SAS and other analytic software for analysis of data from large and sensitive national healthcare dataset.
  • Applies and interprets appropriate statistical modeling methods.
  • Participates in implementation of federally funded health services research studies.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • Doctoral degree in a biostatistics, bioinformatics, epidemiology, health, data, or other related field.
  • High level expertise in use of statistical software such as SAS, Stata, R, Python or similar data analytic software.
  • Experience conducting longitudinal analysis with "big data" datasets such as insurance claims and other administrative records.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position primarily involves desk/computer work. Must have the ability to communicate with other researchers and staff in person, and via virtual meeting software (Zoom, Teams, WebEx, etc), phone, and email.

No significant exposures or noise levels. Office environment.
Special Conditions
The position requires high-level skills in statistical analysis and research methodology including epidemiological and health services research methodology, statistical programming, longitudinal analysis of healthcare claims data, developing and testing statistical models of healthcare utilization and outcomes, methods for analysis of "big data" in healthcare encompassing billions to trillions of records, statistical testing,
survival analysis, machine learning, and other data science and statistical techniques in support of large observational healthcare studies.
