JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: We are searching for an Engineering Support Specialist to join our Deployables and Undersea Connectivity (DUC) Department at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. ARL's purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific, engineering, and technology problems in support of the Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intel Community (IC). The mission of the DUC Department is to develop and mature technical methods and devices to connect platforms in the undersea domain, as well as, bridge to above the sea-air boundary, support tethered and untethered communication techniques between stationary or moving undersea platforms, and employ these capabilities to solve the most challenging undersea communications problems. Engineering Support Specialists apply practical engineering assignments that include prototypical and experimental support hardware lay-out and design, fabrication, assembly and test; facility maintenance and repair of capital and test equipment in support of various sponsored projects; meets with faculty and staff engineers to define the scope of task requirements and schedule constraints, communicates with engineers and project managers to provide progress reports, and facilitates the identification of resources needed to accomplish the task/project. Your working location will be fully on-site in State College, PA. This position will require periodic travel to remote locations in support of testing as part of a small team of researchers, engineers, and technologists.
