BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

Assist patients and consumers in identifying state, federal, and additional financial assistance programs available to support their healthcare needs. Assist consumers both insured and uninsured in understanding their expected out of pocket costs through price estimation and transparency.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provide consumers and patients with price estimates for potential or scheduled services

Screen and enroll patients in applicable state and federal health insurance plans and assistance programs available to them such as Missouri Medicaid, Show Me Healthy Woman, etc.

Determine level of patient liability by using appropriate systems, data, and working with clinical staff and physicians as necessary to advise patient on financial obligations to secure prepayment for care.

Interview and screen patients at the bedside in addition to via phone for both scheduled and unscheduled admissions which includes multiple facility support across the health system

Inform patients of MU Health's Financial Assistance program, screen, and approve application as appropriate.

Maintain adequate and current knowledge of State of Missouri Medicaid programs and qualifiers.

Work closely with outside agencies and department such as State of Missouri Family Support Division, any partnered vendors, and all internal clinical departments.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Experience with healthcare insurance and understanding of healthcare benefits types such as copays, deductible, and co-insurance is preferred. Background with state health insurance programs also preferred but not required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in healthcare, finance, patient accounts, social services, or financial assistance programs or two (2) years of college or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree. Knowledge of state support programs for the indigent. Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
