DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

Ensure next-shift staffing is appropriate for the acuity level while recognizing the diverse skill levels of individual staff members and the unique needs of the patient population.

Identify opportunities for improving services and patient outcomes in collaboration with stakeholders. Share information with NM, DONs, ED, and CNE as appropriate.

Act as incident commander or leader in emergent situations until the arrival of the AOD.

Maintains standards of care utilizing the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses as the foundation for nursing practice and meeting the regulatory requirements standards for state and federal agencies in the absence of the Nurse Manager.

Monitor expenditures and maintain operational costs within the facility budget, utilizing human and material resources in a cost-effective manner.

Promote and achieve the satisfaction of external and internal customers. Effectively intercede with families and patients and resolve concerns related to the delivery of health care services.

When acting as a resource, incorporate research and evidence-based knowledge in developing practice improvement initiatives.

Demonstrate proficiency with various types of medical equipment, including physiological monitoring equipment and life support equipment.

Monitor time and attendance in alignment with MU Health Care policies and practices, ensuring accuracy of records and timely submittal/approval for payroll purposes.

May complete unit/department specific duties as outlined in department documents.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired.

Three (3) years of RN experience including demonstrated clinical expertise in at least one nursing specialty area.

Supervisory or charge nurse experience.

Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master of Science in Nursing degree.

Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs.

This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
