Summary: Responsibilities: Functions as a clinical expert by providing direct episodic health care to prevent and meet the acute symptomatic and palliative care needs of patients with cancer. Practices collaboratively with the interdisciplinary health care team to provide comprehensive health assessments; differential diagnosis; ordering supervising and interpreting diagnostic tests; prescribing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments. Participates in the development of a patient care plan with the registered nurses and the attending physician. Provides educational and liaison supports to health care team members. Participates in the education of patients families and caregivers regarding any disease process procedures post-procedural care and expected outcomes and progress. May perform other duties as requested by the attending physician including but not limited to evaluation of patients in the outpatient setting and triage of emergency visits to the outpatient setting. May collaborate with the attending physician in the writing of chemotherapy orders. Always maintains due regard for compulsive communication between the Nurse Practitioner and the attending physician or his/her delegate. Assists in clinical research projects including data acquisition entry and analysis as needed. Participates in quality improvement teams and other committees as needed. Maintains quality assurance safety environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies procedures and objectives. Other information: Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. BASIC KNOWLEDGE: Graduate from an accredited Nurse practitioner program with MS degree. Certified by the American Nurses Association (ANA) or by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) to practice in the expanded role. License must include prescriptive privileges. Have completed a course in American Heart Association Basic Life Support/Advanced Cardiac Life Support. OCN credentialing within two years of employment. EXPERIENCE: Successful completion of supervised three month clinical internship or equivalent in clinically intensive atmosphere (hospital) preferably in the area of Internal Medicine. Must have patient care services procedures and privileges approved by the sponsoring physician. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Healthcare environment such as acute care hospital physicians* office and ancillary healthcare enterprises.
