ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

Our Surgery Clinic at Bluff Creek provides a wide spectrum of general surgery services. We have 5 general surgeons, 1 Nurse Practitioner and 1 Infectious Disease physician who offer surgical services and wound services. Our nurses assist with minor surgical procedures, provide patient education, wound dressings, and provide exceptional care, while having fun doing it!! We offer a diverse culture and, fun atmosphere, and are lucky enough to work in partnership with our clinicians. BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY:

This position is responsible for delivering exceptional nursing care to patients by utilizing strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status, implement clinical nursing interventions to modify symptoms, and develop and implement patient care plans to enhance and improve outcomes and ensure a safe and therapeutic environment.
This position may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to state law.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assess the patient's condition and nursing needs, sets goals, and prescribes appropriate nursing actions to meet those goals and the physical, psychological, social, and rehabilitative needs of the patient, including discharge planning. Assess, intervene, and reassess the patient's self-report/symptoms of pain promptly. Utilize an appropriate tool for assessment and reassessment (0-10 numerical scale, FACES, or the FLACC.)
Demonstrate an understanding of medications with regards to action and side effects. Reports pertinent information to appropriate individual. Educates patients and significant others about their medications.
Demonstrate the ability to evaluate effectiveness of nursing interventions in accomplishing goals and intended patient care outcomes.
Maintain the standards of nursing care and implements the policies and procedures of the hospital and department. Participate in meetings, in-services, and quality and performance improvement groups.
Report pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person (i.e. physicians, head nurse, charge nurse, and/or nursing supervisor) and records those observations accurately and concisely.
Provide quality care to patients and work with multi-disciplinary team to ensure the highest patient satisfaction.
May complete unit/department specific duties as outlined in department documents.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

General supervision is received from the Charge Nurse or Manager.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Functional supervision is exercised over nursing and support staff.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Participation in a professional nursing organization.
Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs.
This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
