Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Position Summary
The UNC Division of Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine is recruiting for an Assistant Professor to be responsible for the management of patients with Lung Transplantation. Interest and skill in managing patients with Interstitial Lung Diseases, Pulmonary Hypertension, or other pulmonary diseases is also desired.

In this role, the selected candidate will act as a lung transplant physician, participating in the care of inpatients and outpatients before and after lung transplant, and as pulmonary disease physician, attending to outpatients in a pulmonary subspecialty clinic, consulting on difficult inpatients, and being responsive to referring physicians. This role will require excellent communication and collaborative skills as well as the ability to act as a close liaison with other team members, including: CT surgeons, pathologist, radiologists, fellows and residents, clinical pharmacists, social workers, clinical psychologists, and financial counselors. This role will also be expected to participate in regular communications with UNC Hospital and School of Medicine management.

The selected candidate will report directly to the Division Chief and work cooperatively with the Medical Director of the Transplant team. He/she must work effectively in a close teamwork setting and be flexible, solutions-oriented, and intellectually curious. He/she must maintain a commitment to continue to learn and train others in the field of lung transplant and pulmonary medicine in terms of clinical advancements, research, and education.
Administrative roles for this position will involve co-managing the Transplant Team with the Medical Director, including oversight of other team members, including a coordinator, nurse practitioner, and rotating fellow. This individual will also assist with various outreach activities with multiple constituencies both within and outside the Hospital and University and the broader clinical community, including educational activities and outreach clinics at pulmonary practices throughout North Carolina.

Academic interests in the area will also be important, including clinical or translational research in interstitial lung diseases, lung transplant medicine, or related areas. The division is actively involved in the training and teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows, and the candidate will be expected to have responsibilities in those areas.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Applicants must hold an MD or DO degree and be BC/BE in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases, and Critical Care Medicine.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Candidates must have successfully completed fellowship training in pulmonary diseases and critical care medicine. Completion of an additional year of Lung Transplant Fellowship is preferred but not required.
