Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
North Carolina Central University's Information Technology Services (
ITS) provides information technology services to schools and departments, administrators, staff, students, and the growing online and distance education student population. The objectives of
ITS are to Improve the operational effectiveness and efficiency of the administrators, faculty, and staff at
NCCU through the use of technology, enhance the teaching, learning, and research process through the use of technology, and to provide adequate support of the technology that is deployed.

Primary Purpose of Position |
To provide operational oversight and strategic planning for the unit that provides classroom technology, faculty/staff computer support, and event support. This position directs three team leads and an overall team of thirteen technical staff providing support to all faculty and staff, classroom technology, and technical support to campus events, including streaming technologies. This position must use technical knowledge to lead a team of highly technical staff in developing and implementing efficiencies to provide speedy resolution to incidents and proactive and strategic planning for both computer and classroom technologies while developing appropriate policies, regulations, and rules for those technologies.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
Four-year college degree and at least two years experience with endpoint operating systems and Microsoft Office, and have an in-depth knowledge of email functions, printers, virtual desktops, and computing lab support expertise. OR six years experience in the field of information technology and in-depth knowledge of email functions, virtual desktop support, and computing lab expertise. Must have verifiable expertise in supporting both Windows and
MAC endpoints.

Minimum Education/Experience |
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in information technology, engineering, telecommunications, computer science, or a field closely related to the nature of the position and four years of progressive experience in the field of information technology. Experience in the field of work related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. One year of additional experience is generally required to progress beyond the minimum level.

Staff Development |

Provides oversight of Computer, Classroom and AV Event Support (
CCES) staff development, hiring, evaluation and professional development. Ensures staff are trained and ready to support customer endpoint hardware and software. Ensures that staff are cross-trained for
SCCM\
MECM, Jamf School, and other technologies. Reviews existing staffing and skills to determine any gaps and hires and provides training to fill those gaps as it relates to current and future needs of
ITS and
NCCU. Provides performance appraisal and management for the
CCES staff. This includes realigning resources as needed to meet changing campus requirements.

Establish work schedules and priorities based on campus needs and reports from the incident tracking system. As needed, develop budgets and other resource plans to move the
CCES unit and
ITS forward. Examples include planning for more comprehensive Apple hardware training for staff to provide increased support on campus. Ensures that the successful rollout of endpoint technologies is planned and implemented with limited interruption for operational areas. Maintains inventories of computer and classroom technologies to aid in recommending an equipment lifecycle replacement schedule.

Formalizes
NCCU standards for hardware/software for office and classroom baseline technologies. Develop informal teams to work with faculty and staff to evaluate current and future technologies. Further develops the learning spaces of the future and ongoing lifecycle planning documents. Researches and implements technologies to increase efficiencies in delivery of computer and classroom support. Researches emerging classroom and streaming/event technologies to determine needs for the learning spaces of the future.

Works with faculty and staff in the development and implementation of lifecycle-replacement model strategies for faculty and staff computers and learning spaces. Meets with campus constituents at least quarterly to ensure appropriate service and support from the unit. Develops strategies to facilitate and support the campus and academic affairs strategic plans. This includes working with teams of faculty in evaluating and planning for new technologies.
