Bond Life Sciences Center, University of Missouri-Columbia

Job Description

Dr. Anthony Griffiths' laboratory is in the Bond Life Sciences Center at the University of Missouri. Dr. Griffiths is also the Director of the Laboratory of Infectious Disease Research, a state-of-the art NIAID-supported facility that permits research up to BSL-3. Our group has research interests in a variety of emerging viruses, particularly those that require BSL-3 containment, such as bunyaviruses (hantaviruses and phenuiviruses), flaviviruses, alphaviruses, and coronaviruses. Our work aims to understand the mechanisms that emerging viruses cause disease, and to exploit this information to develop vaccines and therapeutics. We work collaboratively with researchers at a variety of academic institutions and industry.

We are seeking up to four enthusiastic post-doctoral fellows to support our NIH and DoD funded work.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design and execute cutting edge virological experiments
  • Collect data and prepare manuscripts
  • Collaborate with academic and industry partners
  • Train graduate and undergraduate students in our group
Qualifications

PhD by start of the appointment is required

Because much of the research will be undertaken at BSL-3, the qualified candidate must have the ability to pass Select Agent Security Risk and Personnel Suitability Assessments as well as obtaining the required medical clearances to work with animals and infectious agents within six (6) months of hire.
