OxyChem is hiring at the landmark STRATOS Direct Air Capture facility in the Permian Basin, seeking those who can apply their technical, managerial, process and safety experience to an important new frontier industry. Direct Air Capture uses proven industrial processes to remove carbon dioxide (CO2) directly from ambient air. This CO2 can then be stored safely and securely underground or used to make things we all need in everyday life. These facilities are important because they help enable companies in hard-to-abate industries to reach their global climate targets.

STRATOS is on track to become the world's largest Direct Air Capture facility. Currently under construction, it is designed to capture up to 500,00 tons of atmospheric CO2 annually and is expected to be commercially operational in mid-2025. Oxy subsidiary 1PointFive will own the facility, with OxyChem responsible for its operation and maintenance.

Description

As the Electrical Engineer at our Direct Air Capture facility in Ector County, TX you will:



  • Develop, manage, and participate in programs, methods, systems, and practices for maintaining a safe work
  • Monitor equipment performance and make recommendations to improve reliability and reduce cost
  • Provide cost estimating and engineering proposals on routine replacement of equipment to correct maintenance problems or for the improvement of processing equipment
  • Provide technical support to production and maintenance organizations throughout the plant to evaluate and resolve maintenance problems
  • Provide training to production, maintenance, and other departments in the proper operation, troubleshooting, repair techniques, controls, and care of electrical equipment
  • Keep current on new technology and equipment and evaluate applicability for use in the plant
  • Consult with contractors, OCC maintenance and outside service groups on capital and maintenance projects
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate preventive maintenance programs
  • Ensure applicable preventative maintenance programs are functioning and are executed as designed
  • Ensure compliance of electrical maintenance systems and electrical components with corporate standards
  • Establish testing and calibration procedures for electrical equipment, as necessary
  • Recommend, establish, and update spare parts requirements for existing or new equipment
  • Prepare equipment specifications and purchase requests
  • Develop inspection, testing, outage, and repair scopes throughout the plant
  • Lead in troubleshooting issues with major equipment or repetitive issues
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations and operating permits.
  • Actively participates in plant's Health, Environmental, Safety and Security (HESS) programs to assure a safe and environmentally sound workplace
  • Actively participate in safety meetings and various other HESS programs while promoting safety through offering recommendations to other employees on working safely

Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 5 years previous Electrical Engineering Experience in a Power Generation or Manufacturing Environment required, 10 or more years preferred.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft applications (such as Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to read, write and speak in English
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team and to develop team members
  • Ability to make technically and economically sound recommendations with incomplete information and in the time required
  • Strong analytical/problem solving/trouble shooting skills
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays and respond to callouts on a non-routine basis
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs, climb ladders and stairs
  • Walking, bending, stooping is required
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator and be able to respond to visual and audible alarms
