UNCG and the Department of Public Health Education are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive population of students, faculty, and staff and are proud of our alumni serving in advocacy, service, teaching, and research positions. The department offers the 8th nationally ranked
PhD in community health education, a
CEPH-accredited
MPH degree, and a BS in public health education with concentrations in
community health education and
health studies (online).We also offer two post-baccalaureate certificates: (1)
health and wellness coaching and (2)
workplace wellness. Our faculty are a community of outstanding teacher/scholars, with active research programs and projects in adolescent and young adult health, athlete health and wellness, health coaching, immigrant and refugee health, racialized stressors and health, physical activity and cardiovascular health, sexual and reproductive health, LGBTQ+ health, tobacco prevention, violence prevention, and worksite health promotion. |
Position Summary |
The
Department of Public Health Education at the University of North Carolina Greensboro (
UNCG) seeks collaborative, social justice-oriented scholars to join our dynamic and supportive faculty. We invite applications for two tenure track positions - one at the Assistant Professor level and one at either the Assistant or tenured Associate Professor level- to begin August 1, 2024. This job announcement is for those interested in the Assistant Professor ranked position.
We are seeking a candidate who will: (a) work to promote health equity and social justice through examining and addressing social determinants of health; (b) establish a robust research agenda that integrates students and complements and/or extends departmental strengths; teach and provide professional mentorship across graduate and undergraduate programs; (d) work closely with students in our PhD program by serving on doctoral program committees, dissertation committees, and providing broad professional mentorship; and (e) provide meaningful service to the department, school, university, and profession. Additional consideration will be given to candidates with strong quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods research skills, and those with training and experience in community-engaged research. |
Minimum Qualifications |
The successful candidate must have:
- A Doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, ScD, EdD) in Public Health or related field (PhD candidates who complete degree prior to start date will be considered)
- Evidence of scholarly productivity and potential appropriate for rank (e.g., peer-reviewed publications and research funding)
- Evidence of committed and excellent teaching at graduate and/or undergraduate levels
- A demonstrated record of working collegially with faculty, students, staff, and community partners

Preferred Qualifications |
Additional consideration will be given to candidates who also have one or more of the following:
- Expertise in quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods to support graduate students and faculty (envision one position supporting quantitative methods and one supporting qualitative methods)
- Expertise in community-engaged research
- Experience and passion for mentoring graduate and undergraduate students
