Position Salary Range $18+ (commensurate with experience)
General Responsibilities
Applications will be put into the pool for available positions when available. Hiring is done on a rolling basis as the need arises.

The Horowitz Center Carpenter provides technical support to the Technical Director with scenery construction and venue maintenance. Carpenter will build scenic elements from working drawings.
Work Performed

  • Construct scenery elements from working drawings
  • Load-in scenery elements into performance venues
  • Assist with scenery rigging
  • Assist with seating platform reconfiguration
  • Perform routing maintenance on tools and equipment
  • Other duties as assigned


Working Conditions:

  • Aspects of the job may require physical labor including very high climbing and heavy lifting.
  • Use of machine tools, loud noise, high voltage electricity, and very hot equipment.
  • Lifting up to 70 lbs., 12 inches off the ground and place on flatbed; lift 50 lbs. and walk 10 feet.
  • Exposure to various weather conditions during load-in/load-out for indoor/outdoor facilities.
  • Exposure to dust and noise.
  • Work within a diverse learning community involving students, volunteers, and professionals.

Other Knowledge Required

  • Working knowledge of applicable safety codes (OSHA, NFPA, NEC, etc.)
  • Experience working with a variety of materials (wood, metal, foam) to create scenic elements
  • Correct power tool operation

  • MIG welding experience is a plus
  • 2+ years experience working in a scene shop preferred
