Auburn Veterinary Specialists - Gulf Shores seeks candidates for a Veterinary Technician to join our anesthesia team. This position works closely with specialty services to provide anesthetic care for patients while training professional veterinary students and other technicians in nursing skills specific to anesthesia. Essential Functions

  • Provide anesthesia to small animal patients undergoing procedures and deliver high quality patient care under the direction of a veterinarian.
  • Review & interpret complex information through continuous physiological monitoring, recognizing anesthetic complications, and intervening proactively with corrective actions.
  • Provide patient care throughout the entire anesthetic life cycle: pre-operative, peri-operative, and recovery phases while maintaining proper documentation.
  • Work closely with specialty services to ensure patients in the hospital are being appropriately cared for and assist as needed.
  • Perfect your anesthetic skills by practicing specialized anesthetic care such as capnography, peripheral nerve stimulation for ophthalmic surgeries, and emergency resuscitation or other life-saving procedures.
  • Inspect, operate and troubleshoot specialized veterinary anesthesia equipment such as ventilators, syringe pumps, vaporizers, and anesthesia machines.
  • Play an integral role in the advocacy of your patients by monitoring for discomfort and pain & recommending pain management as needed.
  • Influence the next generation of veterinarians and technicians in anesthetic best practices through one-on-one training and teaching.
  • Maintain, repair, and clean veterinary equipment, the clinical area, and supplies as needed
  • Be part of the hospital team: daily duties aside from anesthetic care may include patient intake & discharge, medication filling & administration, client communication, inpatient care, billing, and scheduling.

Minimum Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications
Depending on the combination of education and experience, the selected finalist will be hired as a Veterinary Technician and assigned level I, II, or III. New graduates welcome to apply!
Level I requires an Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology or a related field that qualifies an individual to obtain certification.
Level II requires an Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology or a related field that qualifies an individual to obtain certification plus 2 years of experience in Veterinary Technology or clinical experience.
Level III requires an Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology or a related field that qualifies an individual to obtain certification plus 4 years of experience in Veterinary Technology or clinical experience. Experience must include at least 2 years at the preceding level or equivalent.

Substitutions allowed for Education:
Indicated education is required; no substitutions allowed.

Substitutions allowed for Experience:
When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
