West Virginia University Health Science Center is currently accepting applications for a Research Assistant Professor with the Department of Orthopaedics

About the Opportunity

WVU Orthopaedics is committed to advancing research surrounding orthopaedics and orthopaedic surgery. The Research Assistant Professor position will focus on the development of advanced biomaterials that reduce musculoskeletal infections, and/or to develop nanomaterials from greenhouse gas conversion for biomedical applications.

What you'll do:

The hire will perform bench research on the synthesis and testing of advanced biomaterials. In addition, this hire will assist in data management and efficient operation of the laboratory. The hire will be responsible for grant proposal generation, manuscript preparation/submission, symposia presentations, work in progress seminars, and mentoring of students. Specific responsibilities will include generation, maintenance and experimentation on amino acid-based innovative biomaterials. Daily communication with the director of this lab on all aspects of work will be needed.

The Research Assistant Professor will participate in department activities. For career development of the hire, they will be encouraged and provided guidance to develop their own independent line of research in the aligned area and apply for extramural funding. The hire will gain a national and international reputation by securing extramural presentations, invitations to submit manuscripts and collaborations in the aligned field.

Qualifications

  • All applicants should have attained a doctoral degree (MD, PhD or MD/PhD).
  • Some postdoctoral research experience is preferred.
  • Experience in grant writing is preferred.
  • Experience in mentoring students is preferred.
  • Self-starter as well as a team player.
  • Strong work ethic and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office software as well as statistical software (e.g., GraphPad Prism, SPSS, SAS).
