Shelter Coordinator

Position Summary: The Shelter Coordinator will ensure the smooth functioning of the overnight shelter by scheduling and supervising shelter staff, managing shelter clients, and providing on-call support for unforeseen circumstances.

Essential Responsibilities:



  • Schedule and supervise shelter staff
  • Maintain records and statistics for shelter
  • Provide case management for shelter clients
  • Work with supervisor to ensure proper reporting to funding agencies
  • Work with partner agencies, volunteers and staff to ensure quality service and a safe environment for clients
  • Represent The Salvation Army at community activities, events and training
  • Fill in, or find alternatives, for staff that may not be available (including overnight shifts)
  • Arrange transportation for clients needing medical care
  • Facilitate referrals to area social service agencies
  • Use de-escalation techniques as needed
  • Support clients to maintain stable housing
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

Education/Experience:



  • High school diploma / GED, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • College degree in a related field (preferred)
  • Experience working with low income or homeless individuals
  • One year supervisory experience required


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:



  • Maintain client confidentiality
  • Learn and adhere to The Salvation Army Social Services Code of Ethics
  • Adhere to professional codes of ethics as they apply to professional licensing
  • Understand and adhere to professional boundaries within and outside of the organization
  • Maintain client confidentiality and obtain appropriate releases of information
  • Demonstrate a continued effort to increase self-awareness and to better understand other cultures and issues of social justice, and promote racial understanding and reconciliation
  • Complete Caseworker Certification Program within 120 days of hire


Computer Skills:



  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365
  • Working knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint
  • Willingness to learn new software as needed


Certificates and Licenses:



  • Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed
  • Must have and maintain a current valid driver's license and pass the Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR)
