Job Summary

The Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and dedicated professional to serve as the Culture and Belonging Coordinator. This position will provide administrative and logistical support across Community and Culture Programs that include:

  • Underrepresented in Medicine (URIM) Fellowship
  • Bring Your Kid to Work Day
  • Community Connections Initiative
  • Staff DEI Committee
  • Students Capturing the OR Experience (SCORE)
  • Undergraduate Research Internship (URI) Program
  • Faces for the Future Program
  • Other departmental DEI events, training, workshops, and wellness initiatives

This position will assist the Director of Culture and Belonging in administrative and operational tasks, including applying professional concepts to conduct analytical studies, data collection, program assessment, reporting, and providing informed recommendations. This position will also be responsible for coordinating logistics of events, programs, and special projects.

The Culture and Belonging Coordinator will report directly to the Director of Culture and Belonging and will work closely with the Vice Chair of DEI and the Staff DEI Committee to support the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Community and Culture Programs and other DEI events, training, and workshops. This position will play a crucial role in developing processes and implementing initiatives to enhance employee culture in areas of diversity, equity and inclusion, well-being.

This position requires a passion for and demonstrated commitment to DEI work, knowledge of DEI best practices, the ability to move between different projects and timelines, and the organizational skills to manage collaboration across staff, faculty, learners, community organizations, and special interest groups.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $55,700 - $90,000 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care at UCSF provides outstanding patient care, promotes cutting-edge basic and clinical science research, and educates the next generation of health care. providers while focusing on increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion across the organization.

The Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care is one of the largest departments in the School of Medicine with an annual budget of $145 million. Currently, the department has over 298 Faculty members, 56 Staff Physicians, 191 Administrative and Research Staff, 11 Fellows, 90 Residents, 15 Non-Faculty Academics, 15 Postdocs, 87 CRNAs and 5 Nurse Practitioners at ZSFG.

In addition to the Moffitt-Long Hospital at Parnassus, very active units of the department exist at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (inpatient and outpatient, including a very active trauma service), San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center (inpatient and outpatient), Mt. Zion Medical Center (outpatient, including 23-hour stays and the Pain Management Center), Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland, the UCSF Orthopedic Institute and the Benioff Children's, Betty Irene Moore Women's and Bakar Cancer (NIH-designated Cancer Center) Hospitals in the Mission Bay neighborhood.

The Department now has essential roles in patient care outside of the operating rooms, with active participation in Ambulatory Care, Acute and Chronic Pain, and in the Preoperative Clinic. Over the department's fifty-plus years of existence, the department has been at the heart of modern anesthesia's explosive growth and to this day, continues to have an enormous impact on surgical practice and the management of pain. The department's research, education, and clinical care quickly earned and have maintained reputations among the top institutions in the world. Individual faculty members have significant influence on our specialty nationally and internationally, including NIH study sections, NIH funding, FDA, and Editorial Boards Research activities within this department are integrated with and inform clinical practice.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/ or equivalent experience / training.
  • Minimum 1 year of related experience
  • Working knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs.
  • Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient in ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns regarding confidential and/or highly sensitive subject matter
  • Demonstrates ability to analyze, research and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient in ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • End-to-end experience planning and executing engagement initiatives, events, and programs of varying size and scope
  • Knowledge and embodiment of diversity and inclusion best practices
  • Ability to work collaboratively with individuals and groups from various identities, cultures, and backgrounds
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement and initiative in planning and problem solving, under general guidance from the supervisor

Preferred Qualifications


  • Working knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.
  • Familiarity with data privacy laws within working regions (including GDPR)
  • Highly organized with project and event management skills
