Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualification: Juris Doctor degree from an accredited institution of higher education with at least five years of substantive legal experience that directly relates to the position.
Position Summary
The Associate Director of Conflict Management and Informal Resolution for the Equal Opportunity Office ("EOO") is responsible for serving as a facilitator of conflict resolution concerning issues related to Title VI and VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Educational Amendments Act of 1972, the ADA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and other applicable EEO and nondiscrimination laws. The Associate Director of Conflict Management and Informal Resolution will also conduct regular training sessions for UGA employees and students regarding positive and productive conflict resolution skills.
The position is designated to provide informal resolution of harassment and discrimination matters and relationship conflict/dispute resolution options for the University community which includes student, staff, faculty, and other employees.
Minimum Qualification: Juris Doctor degree from an accredited institution of higher education with at least five years of substantive legal experience that directly relates to the position.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Experience working in higher education with student/employee conduct or closely related setting.
  • Knowledge of equal opportunity issues related to higher education and student conduct.
  • Experience in curriculum/training development and implementation.
  • Experience conducting investigations or administrative reviews.
  • Experience with Advocate/Advocate GME or other case management tracking tools.
  • Knowledge of UGA policies and procedures.
  • Self-starter with the ability to effectively manage multiple, ongoing competing priorities.
  • Experience conducting facilitated conversations and/or mediation.
  • Training in mediation, conflict/dispute resolution, or closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Ability to recognize potential workplace issues and provide employees with information regarding all options available.
  • Familiar with sexual misconduct issues involving students and provide students with information regarding available options.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent problem solving and strategic thinking skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to remain neutral with regard to effectively facilitating conversations between members of the UGA community or in investigating complaints of harassment and discrimination.
  • Ability to maintain sensitive and private information.
  • Ability to demonstrable organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, faculty and students in academic and administrative units.

  • Serves as a point of contact for employees and students interested in informally addressing conflict, issues, and concerns related to matters that fall under EOO's purview.
  • Serves as a point of contact for employees and students interested in addressing sexual harassment through the Informal Resolution process in the Title IX and Sexual Misconduct Policy.
  • Meets with employees and students, listens to their concerns, explores options, and coaches employees and students on effective problem-solving options.
  • Maintains up to date knowledge of the University's policies and procedures to assist employees and students in identifying options to resolve conflict and provide guidance related to managing interpersonal conflict and difficult workplace situations.
  • Provides information to employees and students on formal reporting options when applicable.
  • Serves as a facilitator of conversations between willing employees and students to address and/or resolve harassment and discrimination allegations.
  • Works with campus departments and academic units to understand and resolve issues through informal discussions and to develop strategies to prevent future issues.
