The psychology department invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Psychology position to begin the fall of 2025. For best consideration, candidates are encouraged to submit their materials early in the fall semester.
We welcome candidates with experience in cultural, cross-cultural, or multi-cultural psychology. The psychology department is interested in providing students with classroom and research opportunities to understand how cultural meanings, practices, and institutions influence and reflect individual human identity, psychology, and world view. The psychology department is also interested in providing students with opportunities to understand the application of psychological and behavioral principles to the study of universal and culture-specific phenomena. Priority will be given to candidates who can foster an interdisciplinary, integrative approach to human thought, behavior, and wellbeing at individual, group, and community levels and can model the application of psychological science to advocate for social change/justice.
We are excited to announce the opening in fall of 2024 of the fully renovated Dyson building which includes multiple distinct psychology labs. There will be dedicated space for small, medium, and large running rooms; equipment to support investigating areas such as cognitive, biological, social and developmental psychological phenomenon; separate areas for meeting with undergraduate research assistants and much more.
Applicants should be flexible with regard to teaching assignments and confident in their abilities to teach courses within their areas of expertise as well as research methods and statistics. We welcome candidates who will place an emphasis on high quality and inclusive teaching in a small classroom setting and who can expertly integrate relevant sociocultural issues into their teaching. Applicants should demonstrate the ability to develop and teach topical, hands-on laboratory courses in a small, liberal arts college setting. Applicants should be engaged in ongoing research activities and enthusiastic about working to support undergraduate students' research projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Doctorate in Psychology or a related field by Fall 2025 is required.
|
Essential Functions:

- Primarily, instruction of undergraduate students with an expectation of competence in the use of instructional technology
- Ongoing research and mentorship of undergraduate research
- Advisement of undergraduate students
- Participation in departmental activities

Preferred Qualifications:
|
College level teaching experience is preferred.

About the Department/School:
|
The psychology department is part of the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences which has three other program areas: Crime & Justice Studies, Teacher Education, and Social Work. The psychology department is home to 16 full-time faculty as well as several, valued, part-time faculty. The department offers an undergraduate psychology major and minor and supports graduate programs in clinical mental health counseling and school psychology. The department members have expertise in many domains and work together to create a rich curricular experience for students that includes theory, research, and applied fieldwork. The Psychology Department and the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences are committed to advancing a diverse, equitable and inclusive climate. The School has taken leadership in several social justice initiatives, including Creating an Inclusive Community dialogues, the Marist Center for Social Justice Research, developing a social justice minor and the Marist College Diversity Leadership Institute.
