Job Summary

The Access Controls & Security Systems (ACSS) unit is comprised of: Center of Excellence ACSS Program Manager, Security Techs, Locksmith, Security Techs, Locksmith, and Key Cutters. The group is responsible for providing technical support in the installation, repair, and maintenance of locks and security systems to Facilities Services teams, Medical Center and the University at large. Under the general direction of the Access Controls Security Systems Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for: door preparation, installation of locks, exit devices, door closers, electronic hardware, cameras, card readers, alarm panels and associated devices. Repairing, and providing preventative maintenance to doors, locks, exit devices key fabrication and miscellaneous electronic security systems.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $61.20 - $61.20 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The UCSF Facilities Services Department (FS) is committed to creating an exceptional campus physical environment to support the research, teaching, health care and community service mission of the University. FS employs over 460 professional staff and acts as steward for over $100 million in operating funds to achieve its goals in operating and maintaining the UCSF campus environment. FS is organized into 7 operating units: (1) West Campus/Parnassus Operations, (2) East Campus/Mission Bay Operations, (3) Engineering & Utilities, (4) Infrastructure & Renewal Programs, (5) Customer Service & Technology, (6) Custodial Services, and (7) Office of the AVC, including Administration & Communications.

Required Qualifications


  • High School Graduate
  • Two (2) years lock and security systems technician apprenticeship or equivalent education and experience
  • Ability to read, write and perform basic arithmetic calculations; Two (2) years of experience at the operational level in an appropriate craft
  • Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing with campus departments at all levels, contractors and design consultants; ability to effectively interact with a diverse professional staff both independently and as a team member in a busy environment
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic calculations and reports
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and security system schematics
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated theoretical and working knowledge of electricity electronics, and electronic and computerized electronic security system design and operation
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot security system malfunction or failure
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Central Station software of Bosch/Radionics receivers
  • Demonstrated ability to give clear written and oral instructions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access)
  • Working knowledge of applicable building and safety codes
  • Able to analyze problems, determine solutions, and make decisions based on analysis

Preferred Qualifications


  • University and/or Medical Center experience
  • Demonstrated experience with electronic key system management (such as Keywatcher, Videx, Schlage SMS, or similar systems.)
