"Off-scale salaries" and other components of pay, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions, qualifications, and experience. A reasonable estimated salary range for this position is $94,700-$118,000, inclusive of the salary scale and off-scale salary components. Candidates are sought with research and teaching interests in war and critical militarisms embedded in understandings of settler colonialism and empire. The successful candidate will further engage in one or more of the following areas: the Pacific; indigenous studies, SWANA; policing, carcerality and surveillance; biopolitics; histories, technologies and toxicities of warfare, such as targeting, weapons manufacturing, and critical logistics; the embodied aftermaths of militarized state violence. Applicants should have training in Asian American studies and engage with one or more fields of praxis or study, including but not limited to: critical race studies, indigenous studies, postcolonial or decolonial studies, gender studies, trans and queer studies, and sexuality studies. The successful candidate should complement existing strengths within the Department of Asian American Studies, including transnationalism, social movements, cultural production and critique, colonialism and imperialism, youth cultures, immigration, borders and migrant rights, and legal studies. Applicants should be able to offer and create new lower and upper division undergraduate courses on critical militarisms, the transpacific, indigenous studies, state-sanctioned anti-Asian violence, Filipinx studies, SWANA studies, and/or community engaged social justice projects such as anti-imperial and anti-war organizing, all of which link the domestic and global fronts of war and empire. Applicants must hold the Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a relevant field. We seek a scholar with an innovative publication profile or a strong promise of scholarly productivity and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching the undergraduate level curriculum in Asian American Studies. The Asian American Studies Department is an interdisciplinary community of scholars that spans the social sciences, humanities, and arts, and who collaborate broadly with various centers and institutes on- and off-campus focused on community-engaged approaches to manifest and promote social justice.
