Description

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Smith College invites applications for a tenure-track position on Afro-diaspora and/or Indigenous studies in the Spanish-speaking world at the rank of beginning or advanced Assistant Professor, to begin July 1, 2025. We welcome in particular applications from candidates whose work engages with Latin American geographies through a transnational cultural studies lens. Intersectional perspectives, innovative pedagogical approaches, research combining various forms of cultural production, and experience working with heritage speakers of Spanish are especially welcome. Candidates with a PhD in Spanish or related fields will be considered. A successful candidate will have a demonstrated capacity to teach in Spanish at all levels. The ability to establish connections with Portuguese and Brazilian studies will be considered a plus. Successful candidates should be prepared to engage actively with a diverse student body across the liberal arts. Teaching responsibilities for this position will regularly include language teaching and courses in the candidate's field of specialization. Ph.D. is expected by the time of appointment.
