Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Tenant Improvement Program Manager, the Tenant Improvement (TI) Project Manager must be well versed in construction project management as well as building operations and infrastructure (ventilation, electrical, plumbing, etc.) in order to determine the potential impact of construction activities. This role requires the ability to coordinate utility shutdown. TI Project Manager will work independently, managing a portfolio of complex projects with varying priorities. This position emphasizes problem-solving, clear communication, and excellent customer service. The project manager is expected to understand and anticipate customer needs while meeting billable hour targets established by management. The project manager is accountable for construction management, monitoring construction, contract compliance, and coordination of services in support of the campus departments to ensure the construction phases of projects are on schedule, high quality, cost-effective, and appropriate to the project needs. This involves all elements of construction management, from cost estimating through construction phase closeout, safety compliance, contract compliance, coordination, and closeout of large and small projects. This work involves working with other project managers, stakeholders, and facility managers, selecting general contractors and subcontractors, coordinating the activities of multiple general contractors on multiple project sites, construction inspections, and others associated with the projects; monitoring project progress and quality; issue resolution; working with state agency officials to ensure compliance and safety. The project manager has the first-line responsibility to communicate effectively with project stakeholders regarding construction activity impacts and schedules.

***NOTE: This role is fully onsite role.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $140,000 - $201,800 (Annual Rate).

FS is organized into 7 operating units: (1) West Campus/Parnassus Operations, (2) East Campus/Mission Bay Operations, (3) Engineering & Utilities, (4) Infrastructure & Renewal Programs, (5) Customer Service & Technology, (6) Custodial Services, and (7) Office of the AVC, including Administration & Communications.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience/training.
  • Eight (8) years of experience in managing building renovation, major maintenance, facilities systems upgrades, and construction projects / or an equivalent combination of education and experience/training.
  • Advanced knowledge of building and construction, design, construction contract administration and California Building Codes, including advanced understanding of industry practices, or deep expertise in a highly specialized and critical discipline.
  • Advanced construction project management skills to effectively manage highly complex projects, or highly specialized and critical project component.
  • Advanced ability to manage contractors and maintain compliance to the agreed-upon scope of work and budget.
  • Experience leading multi-discipline project groups on large complex projects or programs.
  • Ability to work at various campus locations in a timely manner.
  • Advanced analytical, organizational and problem recognition / avoidance / resolution skills.
  • Advanced written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including highly effective negotiation skills and highly developed political acumen.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Ten (10) years working in specialized training such as Construction Trades & Engineers performing renovations, repairs, upgrades, and/or new construction projects.
  • Professional license in Architecture, Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering or Foreman level or higher in related Building Trades or Stationary Engineering License.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with local, state, and federal building codes and regulations.
  • University, Research Laboratory/ or Medical Center experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of the organization, including its infrastructure, rules, regulations, policies and short and long range strategic building plans.
  • Certifications

  • APPA CEFP, IFMA CFM/FMP, BOMI RPA/FMA
  • OSHA 30
