The Starting salary for this position is $18/hour

Summary/Primary Purpose: Provides case management utilizing The Salvation Army's Pathway of Hope philosophy. Under the supervision of the Corps Officer, works in partnership with clients and other community partners to provide needed services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Recruits and works with Pathway of Hope clients
  • Conducts client interviews regarding needs for assistance.
  • Networks and collaborates with other community agencies to get the best results possible.
  • Maintains adequate supplies within the food pantry so as to be able to provide emergency food assistance to clients who come for assistance.
  • Work with the food pantry employee to order from Riverland and Walmart food accordingly.
  • Maintains clients' records by reviewing case notes, logging events and progress.
  • Maintains and prepares reports and statistics required by The Salvation Army.
  • Coordinates the use of volunteers and community service workers to assist with the filling of food orders and stocking the food pantry.
  • Ensure the food pantry is organized, clean, and the shelves are stocked.
  • Coordinates the pickup of donations as they relate to Social Services.
  • Maintains an organized filing system of confidential client records, including backups of computerized data and entry of required documentation in the SIMS system.
  • Facilitates the disbursement of funds to clients for emergency assistance throughout the year.
  • Plans and executes the process of providing Christmas Assistance to clients during the holidays.
  • Operates multiline telephone system to answer incoming calls and direct callers to the appropriate personnel. This includes providing information on available services to callers and taking messages when appropriate personnel are unavailable.
  • Forwards correspondence related to mail appeal to Divisional Headquarters, Direct Mail office.
  • Attends relevant training sessions as directed by Corps Officer.
  • Driving is an essential function of the role.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities: Food Pantry

Education and/or Experience: High School diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of two years' prior case work or related experience. College coursework in human services preferred.

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.



  • Ability to be flexible, prioritize and work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Word and Excel skills, and the ability to access data systems via a web-based system.
  • Administrative skills to include utilization of standard office equipment, data entry, 10-key, attention to details and filing.
  • Good communication skills both written and spoken, and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Mathematical skills to include add, subtract, multiply, divide, use of common fractions and decimals.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters.
  • Attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Strong independent judgement.


Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Successfully completes The Salvation Army's Case Manager Certification within 90-days of hire.

Ability to stand, bend and reach for extended periods of time, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment. May need to climb, balance. Kneel, crouch or crawl. This position will require the ability to lift and/or move more than 50 pounds occasionally.

Working Conditions: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job - an office environment and while performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
