Position Description: Lead process to deliver an efficient and economical design to illustrate added value through the bid and construction phase which satisfies client scope and the technical requirements especially the stringent high-purity standards crucial to semiconductor fabrication. This role demands a leader capable of managing complex, large-scale construction projects through all phases including planning, conceptual and detailed design, space management and BIM coordination, construction, commissioning and startup with budgets ranging from $500 million to multi-billion. Essential Duties and Responsibilities*: Project Leadership: Determine fundamental direction of the design, lead the entire design team and design process continuously, from first step in design phase (schematic design) throughout execution until completion. Integral part of the construction team that works closely with the Project Executive/Manager and plays a decisive leadership role. Establish appropriate scopes and contractual agreements between Designers necessary to deliver project. Communicate effectively between Designers, Construction team and client representatives. Ensure that design in all phases meets contractual obligations through review and approval of all construction and shop drawings generated by the design partners and subcontractors. Manage timely delivery of all design documents. Generate and coordinate the relevant subcontractor contractual language relating to design. Initiate design reviews and leverage opportunities to optimize design, improve constructability and to detect risks. Understand and utilize lean aspects in a manner that minimizes the cost for and speeds the delivery of design preparation but strive to create designs that can be delivered in a more efficient manner (prefabrication and other lean techniques), delivered more safely (safety in design) and balance first costs and life cycle costs. May perform other duties as necessary or assigned Semiconductor Specific Leadership: Utilize understanding of semiconductor production requirements to influence planning, design, and construction phases of a semiconductor wafer fab. Ensure the design and construction meet the stringent purity requirements of semiconductor manufacturing, including ISO 3 to ISO 5 cleanroom certification, SEMI standards, and customer-specific requirements for the purity of water, chemicals, gases and cleanroom environment. Identify potential reliability risks and develop designs and strategies to address issues that impact constructability, operations and maintainability of systems. Utilize understanding of interdependencies between wafer fab facility systems to lead development of system start up sequences. Implement designs and materials that support the high reliability and high purity performance requirements of semiconductor manufacturing operations. Develop design schedules that support construction phasing necessary to meet client's manufacturing critical milestones. Collaborate with QAQC manager to implement rigorous quality control processes and standards to ensure the highest level of precision and reliability in the construction of the wafer fab, with a specific focus on high-purity environments and materials. Develop and manage project budgets for each key discipline, ensuring adherence to target value for each scope from design and construction through building start up and turnover to client. Team Management: Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing engineering team, consisting of lead engineers and their direct reports for each key discipline including: Ultrapure Water and Wastewater Treatment Chemical and Specialty Gas Dispensing and Distribution Bulk Gas and Chemical Storage, Dispensing and Distribution High Voltage (30KV+) Electrical, Medium Voltage (1KV-30KV) and Low Voltage (480V and below) Electrical I&C (instrumentation and controls) LSS (life safety systems) HVAC and Hydronic System Cleanroom Air Systems Cleanroom Architecture Plumbing Fire Alarm and Fire Protection Systems. Civil and Structural Design Team Responsibilities: Ensure optimal alignment and efficient systems installation. Ensure that all required-on-job (ROJ) dates comply with the project schedule with the appropriate approval status. Participate in schedule update meetings and provide the latest information for an informed and accurate schedule. Evaluate and process RFIs and submittals. Lead value engineering workshops. Audit the contractor coordination to ensure overall installation complies with the design requirements, operations, and maintenance fundamentals, and quality standards. Partner with the superintendents and corresponding commissioning teams for the overall turnover process including start-up, testing, commissioning, and closeout. Conduct regular project walkthroughs with the field staff to ensure that work is proceeding in accordance with the contract documents, coordination drawings, and approved submittals. Identify and inform field staff of difficult installation requirements in sufficient time to allow for proper planning and execution. Manage and secure all municipal and agency documentation required for temporary certificates of information and system operation. Collaborate with Operations and QAQC/Commissioning Teams to create and implement the quality control plans Collaborate with Preconstruction and Operations Teams to generate scope of work documents, as required, with a division of responsibility for contractors and vendors. Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution: Owner's project management team or consultant team Construction Operations Director Commissioning and Quality Director Project Controls Manager General Superintendent Technical Expertise: Provide technical guidance and support in critical semiconductor concerns such as ultrapure water systems, high purity chemical/specialty gas dispensing and distribution, and cleanroom air systems and architectural elements. Reporting and Documentation: Maintain comprehensive project documentation and provide regular status reports to senior management, highlighting progress, challenges, and solutions. #LI-ZO1 |
