The Salvation Army Midland Division is looking for a Development Director. The Development Director is responsible for setting and achieving goals that assist the Corps in building capacity and achieving financial sustainability, thus, making it possible for The Salvation Army to increase encounters with Christ and expand the impact of programs and services throughout the Jefferson City service area. We are offering a minimum starting salary at $ 65,000 per year.

Essential Functions of the position:

Manage a fundraising program that includes direct mail, events, sponsorship and grant development, donor cultivation and stewardship, and special campaigns



  1. Act as a liaison to the Advisory Board Development Committee and assist Corps Officers in engaging advisory board members using best practices provided by divisional headquarters.



  1. Attend weekly Midland Development Department meetings and share best practices virtually or in-person and monthly meetings with other Corps Development Directors.
  2. Review progress toward achieving development goals with the Divisional Executive Director of Development.
  3. Collaborate with Divisional Donor Relations Directors and Gift and Estate Planning Directors on an ongoing cultivation and stewardship plan utilizing moves management for assigned major and planned gifts donors.
  4. Work with Corps Officer(s) and Division Ministry Partner team to achieve goals of the corps strategic plan.



  1. Maintain donor records and prospects in appropriate software. Utilize donor analysis, fundraising performance and tracking reports. Steward donations including scanning, tracking receipt of donations, visit notes, donor interests, etc.



  1. Plan and execute visitations with donors to cultivate and steward relationships and solicit financial gifts.
  2. Work with advisory board committees and other corps volunteers to plan and execute the annual Tree of Lights Christmas Campaign and other events that generate revenue and awareness for the corps.
  3. Implement strategies that build awareness of the corps as an active and vital member of the community.
  4. Contribute to the development and management of the annual operating budget.
  5. Participate in administrative planning and evaluation of fundraising programs.
  6. Represent Salvation Army at service clubs and community organizations meetings as directed.
  7. Comply with Safe From Harm guidelines.



  1. Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with clients, donors, volunteers, co-workers, and anyone who comes into our building. This includes, but is not limited to, such actions as: resolution of conflicts in a professional manner, courteous treatment of staff, visitors and clients, respect of others' property and person, and professional and appropriate communication to and about clients, co-workers, and supervisors.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and four (4) years' work-related experience. Combination of training and experience will be considered. Comprehensive knowledge of fund-raising including prospect research, solicitations, major gifts and grant/proposal writing. Familiarity with the Jefferson City area philanthropic community is a plus. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a working knowledge of computer software applications including word processing, spreadsheets, database and e-mail. Must be a team player, self-starter, able to handle several projects at the same time and perform well with minimum supervision. Ability to efficiently and effectively manage several projects at one time. Ability to think independently and exercise sound judgment. Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure, especially during the Christmas Campaign. Able to work additional hours as needed (i.e. during the Christmas campaign.) Must pass TSA MVR check, have a valid driver's license, and have reliable transportation.

Physical and Working Conditions

Must be capable of performing the above essential duties in an office environment to include using a computer, answering phones, etc. Most work will be indoors in a temperature-controlled environment.
