REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Student Lifeguard at Central Broward Park and Stadium.
This Job Announcement will remain open until a sufficient number of applications are received.

Lifeguards are required to attend and successfully complete all Jeff Ellis and Associates Lifeguard Trainings within 30 days of their start date. Please contact 954-357-5400 for more information.
Jeff Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Training
-Must pass swim test on first day of class to continue (100yd swim, 1 minute tread, retrieve 10lb brick min 8ft). Goggles may be worn for the 100yd swim.
-Must pass all practical skills and written examination (online course) to receive license.
-Must complete and pass online training prior to participation in the practical training classes listed above.
General Description Performs skilled water safety work involved in the operation of County aquatics facility/facilities.
Works under close supervision according to set procedures.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Must be currently enrolled in a state licensed school, college, or university, must be at least 16 years of age, and must demonstrate student status for the duration of the appointment.
Special Certifications and Licenses Required
Licensed through Jeff Ellis & Associates in life saving techniques, water safety instruction, standard first aid and CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) for adult, child and infant.
Must obtain the Jeff Ellis & Associates license within 30 days of hire.
Preferences:
Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include days, some evenings, weekends, holidays and special events.

All candidates must complete an extensive ten (10) year work history verification and criminal background check which includes post-offer physical examination, drug testing and the clearing of DCF's Affidavit of Good Moral Character (https://www.myflfamilies.com/service-programs/background-screening/docs/DCF%20AGMC.pdf).


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Safeguard patrons while maintaining skills at a rescue ready level and monitoring pools for guest safety.

Performs emergency water rescue techniques to assist persons in distress; performs CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and administers standard first aid when necessary.

Ensures general safety rules, regulations, policies, and procedures are adhered to as it pertains to aquatic facilities.

Assists with aquatics programs and equipment setup for special events.

May be required to work designated first aid area, assisting injured patrons while administering standard first aid as needed.

Ensures general upkeep, cleanliness, and appearance of aquatics amenities including water park, pool areas, restrooms, showers, and concession areas.

Performs related work as required.

Physical Demands

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of equipment within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.

Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment)

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

Involves routine and frequent exposure to pool chemicals.
