JOB SUMMARY
The Division of Outcomes and Precision Medicine Research, Department of Surgery at the University of Minnesota, wishes to hire a full-time Post Doc. This person will work on research related to the projects funded by NIH and other sources developing novel insights on microbiome, pharmacomicrobiomics and interactions with host immunity. The goal of Dr. Klatt laboratory is to leverage the study of microbiome to uncover and predict medical and surgical outcomes and to define the role of the microbiome in the context of precision medicine, disease prevention and progression. The candidate will be responsible for scientific research and studies under the supervision of managing staff. Moreover, the Post Doctoral Associate will promote institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community. Finally, the candidate will conduct experiments and will prepare manuscripts and present data. The Post-Doctoral Associate is expected to work independently and as well as in team to complete projects in a timely manner.

JOB DUTIES

1. Conducts research on specific areas of study as assigned. 40%
- Designs, performs experiments.
- Keeps appropriate experimental records and documentation
- Interprets, summarizes and analyzes the results with the Principal Investigator.
- Prepares research reports and technical papers for publishing.
- Works collaboratively as well as independently in order to reach lab's goal in time.

2. Participates to laboratory growth and innovation 25%
- Develops, adapts, and implements new research techniques and protocols.
- Investigates the feasibility of applying scientific principles and theories.
- Develops advanced analytical models and systems
- Provides solutions and analyses to support strategic and tactical decisions.

3. Commits to success 30%
- Draft papers
- Writes scientific abstracts
- Presents data
- Participates and contributes to the advance of the scientific community
- Prepares data for grant submissions
- Assists in writing grants
- Investigates grant opportunities, writes and submits grants for themselves

4. Performs routine laboratory/university procedures 5%
- Participate to trainings.
- Operates and maintains laboratory equipment and instruments.

Qualifications

Required: PhD or equivalent in in a relevant field of study such as Medical Microbiology, Medical Biotechnology or Immunology with experience in cellular biology and/or molecular biology and/or biochemistry and/or genetics. Extensive research experience and excellent written and oral communication skills are required. The candidate must show interest in conducting state-of-the art laboratory experiments as well in contributing in their design. The candidate is requested to demonstrate skills in producing, collecting, organizing, and analyzing data as well ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems and making critical decisions independently and in team.

Preferred: Experience with the following procedures, techniques and assays: DNA extraction, PCR, primer design, cloning and sequencing, ELISA, multiplex ELISA, plasmid generation, viral propagation, cell culture. flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry. Mass spectrometry experience, microbiome/virome sequencing and bioinformatics analysis preferred but not indispensable. Candidates with extensive experience in producing/edit/submit peer-reviewed papers for high-impact journals will be highly considered.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $61,008 - $62,000 depending on education/qualifications/experience
