The communications department is seeking a Generative AI program manager to partner with other AI experts and technologists across the Lab and with a cross-disciplinary team of creatives to discover opportunities for leveraging Gen AI for our staff, APL and our sponsors.

As a Generative AI Program Manager for Communications...

  • Develop and lead the implementation of a strategic vision for integrating Gen AI technologies into the communications department's workflows - enhancing efficiency, productivity and quality assurance
  • Develop and leverage relationships with technical leaders in Gen AI across the Lab and effectively share the communications department's expertise in leveraging Gen AI
  • Lead a team including subject matter experts in graphic design, video production, public affairs, technical writing, editorial, social media, printing and displays and more to identify ways to enable creative storytelling through leveraging Gen AI
  • Investigate and evaluate emerging trends and advancements in Gen AI technology to ensure the department is adopting best practices and using the right tools through partnership with the communications technology manager
  • Foster an environment that encourages experimentation, noble failures and continuous improvement in the adoption of Gen AI technologies
  • Partner with communications strategists and Gen AI experts across the Lab to help APL staff understand the Lab's data security and legal guidance around the use of Gen AI through clear and concise messaging
  • Identify and manage relationships with partners within and outside of APL to ensure our staff have access to enterprise level Gen AI technology
  • Establish performance metrics for Gen AI solutions used by the communications department - regularly monitoring their effectiveness in meeting departmental goals
  • Partner with the communications department resources to build and deploy Gen AI solutions within the communications department
  • Develop and lead the execution of training sessions and workshops for communications department staff ensuring seamless integration into workflows

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • A bachelor's degree in data science, AI research and development, computer science, mathematics, engineering, communications or a related field
  • At least six years of experience in a field related to data science, AI research and development, computer science, mathematics, engineering or a related field
  • At least one year of experience heavily leveraging Generative AI
  • Experience leading cross-disciplinary teams in dynamic and high-energy environments
  • An ability to collaborate effectively and operate independently - setting priorities and balancing needs in a fast-paced organization
  • Experience managing a portfolio of work including managing budgets and forecasting future needs
  • Ability to develop clear and compelling reports and presentations
  • Are able to obtain Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

  • A master's degree in data science, AI research and development, computer science, mathematics, engineering, communications or a related field
  • Demonstrated success in the design and implementation of new cross-disciplinary tools or workflows

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
