The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager of the Athletic Center at Columbia University, Irving Medical Center, the Athletic Resource Provider will work closely with athletic center users (i.e. students, faculty, staff and other members) to ensure a high quality of customer service while members utilize the Athletic Center. The goal of the Athletic Resource Provider is to coordinate staffing to ensure the Athletic Center is open timely, equipment is clean and functional, pool is staffed (lifeguard responsibilities), coordinate activities and operations related to greeting users and making rounds of the athletic center ensuring users are using equipment properly and safely. The Athletic Resource Provider will also assist in planning fitness programs and events for users to create a wellness program.

Responsibilities





    • Properly open and close Athletic Center each day according to Standard Operating Procedures. Athletic Center is open 7 days a week for members and shifts may/will occur on weekends or weekdays after 5pm.
    • Maintain a safe, clean and friendly environment in the athletic facility and pool.
    • Perform lifeguard duties and oversee the pool during open swim hours.
    • Deliver a high level of customer service to all athletic center users.
    • Answer phones/emails and assist members with various questions including membership, fitness inquiries and equipment use.
    • Assist with daily cleaning of the fitness equipment and ensure all equipment is functional and in working condition.
    • Assist with cleaning of gym laundry (towels, etc.) and ensure proper stock of items for daily use.
    • Oversee and monitor athletic center compliance standards by posting signs, viewing credentials of members, updating policies with team and assisting with various room set ups and breakdowns.
    • Be responsive to member feedback, complaints and escalating issues to athletic center manager as necessary.
    • Attention to detail and cleanliness; responsible for maintaining/cleaning/disinfecting the check-in desk/main entrance ensuring area is ready for all members.
    • Perform club/locker room walkthroughs periodically throughout shift ensuring the facility is presenting at its best.
    • Create various fitness programs for members and oversee planning and logistics for planned event.
    • Quickly address any maintenance or equipment issues that are visible to members.
    • Attend various department, division and university meetings on a regular basis and complete all necessary compliance trainings.
    • Other duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications



  • HS Diploma or Equivalency, Bachelor's Degree Preferred.
  • Lifeguard Certification required.
  • CPR/AED Certification required.
  • Ability to interact professionally with patrons regarding concerns, problems or any other significant issues.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and other technology software's for ease of efficiencies.
  • Team player and a passion to build relationships with individuals.
  • Excellent customer service skills handling all matters in courteous and friendly manner.
  • Proactive, hands on approach, as well as a professional work ethic.
  • Self-motivated, highly efficient, strong attention to details.



Other Requirements



  • The Office of Housing Services residential facilities do not close. We serve our students and remain open during all campus holidays and closures. Due to our 12-month operation, this position is considered an essential employee. In the event of severe weather or emergency situations, the university may suspend classes or close the university. This position would be expected to remain at or report to their facilities as soon as conditions reasonably permit.
  • Subject to work varying hours (early mornings, late night, and/or weekends) to maintain a 7 day opening operation.
  • Ability to work in high pressure environment autonomously.
  • Ability to deal effectively with a diverse population.
  • Ability to lift in excess of 50lbs.
