QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

The qualifications and skill requirements for these adjunct faculty nursing positions include

  • A current Florida RN licensure and a minimum of two (2) years recent experience for all nursing programs.
  • In addition, for each nursing program indicated below, the following specific credentials and experience are required:

Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Assistant:

  • Current Florida RN licensure
  • Two years recent experience; long term care experience

Practical Nursing:

  • Credentialed with a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in nursing
  • Current experience in long term care and/or acute care experience

Associate Degree in Nursing:

  • Credentialed with a minimum of a Master's degree with a major in nursing
  • Current experience in acute care

Bachelor of Science in Nursing:

  • Credentialed with a minimum of a Master's degree with a major in nursing
  • Doctorate in nursing or related field preferred
  • Current experience in acute care
  • Instructors must have current knowledge and technical practices within the scope of practice for a Registered Nurse and be knowledgeable regarding the roles and scope of practice for the Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Technician, Licensed Practical Nurse, and Registered Nurse.
  • All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution, and all instructors must meet the appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential job functions and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Preparing, instructing and grading all class coursework;
  • Assigning final grades;
  • Adjunct nursing faculty must adhere to the guidelines of Indian River State College, Florida Board of Nursing, and the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The specific duties and responsibilities for these adjunct faculty positions include, but are not limited to:

Nursing Adjunct faculty may be assigned to teach classroom instruction, laboratory, and/or clinical supervision Nursing Adjunct faculty must be willing to oversee up to 12 students in the Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Technician, and Practical Nursing programs Nursing Adjunct faculty must be willing to oversee up to 10 students in the Associate degree nursing program.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The essential physical skills required for this position includes: having the physical abilities sufficient to move from room to room and maneuver in small spaces; possessing a high degree of flexibility; auditory abilities sufficient to monitor and assess health needs; visual abilities sufficient for observation and assessment necessary in nursing care; tactile abilities sufficient for physical assessment; and sufficient stamina to provide patient care and related responsibilities for extended periods of time (8-12 hours). This position also requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of fifty (50) pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
