Responsibilities

New York Institute of Technology's -deSeversky Mansion seeks to a fill a full-time Utility/Dishwasher role at our Long Island (Old Westbury) campus.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

    Follow the direction of the Chef de Cuisine according to the daily work plan provided.
  • Set up pot sink areas in both the upstairs and downstairs kitchen and turn on all dish machines and boosters at the start of each shift.
  • Maintain and ensure proper use of chemicals in machines and for cleaning and managing cleaning inventory.
  • Wash and properly store all dishes, trays, eating utensils and small equipment for the department.
  • Maintain, organize and keep a clean workstation at all times, including the surrounding floors and walls.
  • Dispose of garbage, boxes and bulky items in designated dumpsters outside the mansion throughout shift and manage garbage area outside.
  • Clean upstairs and downstairs walls and floors daily.
  • Hose down kitchen mats outside daily.
  • Perform weekly deep clean of ovens grills, fryers, and stovetops.
  • Assist with food preparation as requested by Chef de Cuisine.
  • Assist with food deliveries and storage as needed.
  • Apply the rules of safety and sanitation to ensure care in food handling, in accordance with Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) policies and procedures, safety in work, and reduction of accidents
  • Perform end of shift final walk through of areas to ensure all doors, windows and cages are locked, dish machine is broken down properly and turned off, all kitchen equipment and exhaust systems are off, and all soiled kitchen rags are in the laundry room with appropriate labels.
  • Must be able to work in other areas on campus as needed, such as all campus cafes, kiosks, food trucks and any/all special events on or off campus.
  • Must be able to work in other positions, such as attendant/cashier, server, housekeeping, as needed should employees in those positions not be able to work due to vacation, sickness or personal time.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, nights and holidays, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Educational Requirements (High School or Equivalent), plus one to two years' experience in an institutional food service operation as a utility worker or dishwasher, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired
  • HACCP and Safety and Sanitation Certification required; or must be in the process of obtaining.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND STRESS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand for extended periods of time. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

New York Tech considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate experience/expertise, education/training, key skills, geographic location, internal peer equity as well as market, organizational considerations and/or applicable collective bargaining agreement when extending an offer.



Minimum Salary

USD $38,000.00/Yr.
