You'll be a key member
of our research team that focuses on elucidating the mechanisms through which
the autonomic nervous system initiates and sustains arrhythmias. You'll be
responsible for conducting large animal surgeries, ensuring daily animal care,
providing post-operative care, maintaining the health of large animal cases,
and collaborating with various departments within the School of Medicine. Your
work will help advance our understanding of how the cardiac nervous system contributes
to heart disease. Our research involves the collection of electrophysiologic
and neural data in both human subjects and animal models of cardiovascular
disease. Our experiments with animal models encompass surgical dissection,
recording fundamental hemodynamic and electrical activities, and analyzing
tissue chemicals and proteins.
We're
seeking an independent, self-motivated, detail-oriented professional with:*DVM degree or equivalent
- Ability to perform technical procedures in a timely and accurate manner
- In-depth knowledge of veterinary practice related to laboratory animal medicine
- Exceptional interpersonal skills
- Ability to keep accurate records
- Understanding of pre- and post-surgical care of laboratory animals
- Familiarity with IACUC protocols, specifically regarding animal care, analgesia, anesthesia, surgical and non-surgical procedures, and euthanasia
- Knowledge of federal, state, and institutional regulations governing the use and care of laboratory animals
