Job Summary

The CRO primarily responds to complaints of discrimination and harassment and discrimination pursuant to the University's Sexual Violence Sexual Harassment Policy ("SVSH Policy") and the University's Policy on Discrimination, Harassment, and Affirmative Action in the Workplace Policy ("Nondiscrimination Policy") and must possess the ability to exercise independent judgment, assess and negotiate complex, highly sensitive situations, maintain confidentiality, and maintain neutrality when handling matters.
The CRO will function as a member of the Intake Team in the Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination ("OPHD"). The CRO is primarily responsible for conducting outreach and intake interviews related to allegations of violations of the SVSH Policy and/or the Nondiscrimination Policy, assessing documentary evidence and information provided during intake interviews, and conducting alternative resolutions when appropriate.

The incumbent will make recommendations concerning matters that the CRO believes are appropriate for alternative resolution and, upon approval from the Deputy Director of Complaint Management, will implement alternative resolutions. The CRO will also make recommendations regarding matters that should be referred to the OPHD Investigation Team for formal investigation. Upon consultation and approval from the Deputy Director of Complaint Management, the CRO will refer the matter to the OPHD Investigation Team.

The incumbent will also assist, as needed, with conducting internal audits, legal research, and providing campus training, and will serve as a campus subject matter expert on sexual harassment, sexual violence, and EEO-related policies and requirements.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $108,800 - $163,200 (Annual Rate).

OPHD is a significant campus compliance unit housed within the Office of Diversity and Outreach (ODO). OPHD is responsible for overseeing the campus efforts to meet its requirements around Title VI, VII, Title IX and ADA compliance and has exclusive jurisdiction over the University's policies prohibiting discrimination against or harassment of any person on the basis of their membership in a protected category, including sexual violence and sexual harassment. OPHD is responsive to federal and state agencies including the Office of Civil Rights, the Office of Federal Contract Compliance (OFCCP) as well as requests and audits from the UC Office of the President (UCOP). The OPHD is also responsible for assuring OFCCP compliance and the completion of the annual Affirmative Action report.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and 3+ of directly related experience, or equivalent experience / training
  • Minimum of two years of experience in conducting relevant complaint processing. Knowledge of best practices and methodologies for handling harassment and discrimination complaints, including trauma-informed interviewing practices, gathering and analyzing evidence, and writing initial assessments.
  • Training in trauma-focused approaches to investigations
  • Computer competency in basic Microsoft software programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and ability to learn and work proficiently in UC and UCSF-specific case management and document management applications.
  • Experience interacting with constituents that are diverse in characteristics such as age, education level, race, gender identity and expression, ability, and socioeconomic backgrounds, in a culturally- competent manner.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations as well as the complexities of matters related to harassment and discrimination in the educational or employment setting, or of substantially similar laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge and ability to interpret federal and state equal opportunity and discrimination laws and regulations, including Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section
  • 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and other applicable laws and regulations
  • Proven ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to multi-task while working in an environment with demanding timeframes and competing interests.
  • Political acumen, the ability to establish and maintain productive, professional working relationships with campus administrators, academic and staff employees and students. Ability
  • to assist or consult with administrators, staff and faculty in assessing procedural, policy or ethical concerns in complex matters.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills. Ability to present information in a clear and concise manner both in writing and orally.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with diverse groups. Skills in evaluating diverse viewpoints and managing elevated emotions of complainants during intake interviews. Builds rapport in an open, friendly, and accepting way; strong active listening skills.
  • Ability to gather, organize, complete analysis and develop recommendations in the completion of assignments; critical thinking skills.
  • Applies ethics and compliance concepts and standards in the completion of assignments. Skills in problem-solving.
  • Thorough knowledge of ethics and compliance profession and professional compliance and investigations standards.
