About the Department:

Since 1994, under the founding direction of Roy Rosenzweig, the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media (RRCHNM) at George Mason University has used digital media and computer technology to democratize history - to incorporate multiple voices, reach diverse audiences, and encourage popular participation in presenting and preserving the past. RRCHNM uses digital media and technology to preserve and present history online, transform scholarship across the humanities, and advance historical education and understanding.

About the Position:

The postdoctoral fellow works on research projects generated in collaboration with the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA). These projects will assist the DPAA's mission to provide the fullest possible accounting for the nation's missing personnel from past conflicts abroad.

Responsibilities:



  • Works directly with the DPAA in identifying and completing required research projects; and
  • Produces website content, blog posts, or other teaching materials as assigned.


Required Qualifications:



  • Terminal degree in a related field;
  • Ph.D must be completed by the first day of employment;
  • Prior experience working on digital history products;
  • Ability to work well on deadline;
  • Strong attention to detail and fact checking;
  • Experience with digital tools and methodologies;
  • Effective writing and communication skills;
  • Ability to work with diverse stakeholders; and
  • Experience working in a collaborative environment.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Background in modern military history or adjacent fields;
  • Archival and field research experience;
  • Experience working collaboratively; and
  • Experience working with a variety of stakeholders.
